Goth Rosary Scent Samples
Last night, I received my fragrance samples from Goth Rosary. I like to support women-owned small business whenever I can, particularly cruelty-free business, and Goth Rosary is both. Anti-Sally offers SLS-free hair products (shampoo & conditioner), solid perfumes, candles, mists, and lotions, as well as Gothic-themed handmade rosaries and lots of fun tee-shirts and novelties (a Shroud of Turin handtowel!). Turnaround time for the fifteen fragrance-sample strips was less than a week. Anti-Sally tossed in a little treat, as well as a personalized 'thank you for ordering' note.
Can't Wait Demeter-- Ripe Pomegranate and Harvest Scents surround Demeter as she longs for Persephone To return from Hades.
Definitely pomegranate, and a little apple and cherry made not cloying by a very subtle dirt note. This smells very nice-- would make a wonderful shampoo or conditioner because it's not aggresively clean, but still smells very natual.
Crypt-- Surrounded, Haunting... The smell of moss clinging to a marble Mausoleum.
A deep, warm green scent. It reminds me of something, but I can't quite put my finger on it. It is very pleasant, though, if you like more Earth-y scents. It's got an air of quite reflection with a tinge of melancholy. Also, very unisex. I liked it much more than I was expecting to.
Dead-On Chocolate-- Close your eyes... smell the pile of deep rich dark chocolate, everyone loves chocolate, wear this and see.
Synthetic milk chocolate. I wouln't call this "deep chocolate," it lacks a real cocoa bite. It would be pleasant for layering with other food-y scents, though, if that's your thing. It's just not mine.
Dervish-- Mysterious, enchanting... smell the rich blend of ancient spices... Earthy musk, Soulful sandalwood & Velvety vanilla beans.
More or less exactly what it says-- lightly spicy and woody, like incense with a musk base and a very thin layer of foody vanilla. It's kind of a generic Pagan-shop scent. Not terribly unique, but pleasant.
Fairy Wings-- Delicate, clean & sweet... The smell of warm sunlight, fresh cucumber and ripe black berry.
Clean, a little soapy, with a bright blackberry note. I also smelled some floral in there. Not my choice for scents, as it was a little generic, but it would make a lovely linen scent-- it's mild and calming.
Funeral Flowers-- Beautiful flowers & sweet memories... The smell of a profusion of blossoms and calming vanilla, Lay gracing the grave of the dearly departed.
For a floral blend, I didn't pan it. The vanilla is actually quite strong. This reminded me of BPAL's Regan, with soft, white blooms, like pale orchids. There's also a subtle smoke note in there, too. It was kind of soothing.
Gothic Rose-- Blood red roses... The smell of unfurled deep crimson petals.
Very rich, dark rose. Comparable to BPAL's Black Rose or FeMaledictions' Rose Noir. A nice choice for those who want rose-scented hair products that aren't terribly synthetic.
Graveyard-- Green & floral... The smell of rich loamy soil, fresh green grass with a note of floral.
Smells like BPAL's Graveyard Dirt and FeMaledictions' Dirtnap. Straight-up soil and greenery.
Heathen-- Soft, warm & earthy... The smell of cannabis swirled with patchouli & sandalwood incense.
Smells like dirt and incense. Would make a nice gift for your favorite dirty hippie.
Mayhem-- Burnt bits & smoldering embers... The smell of smoke mixed with woods & spice.
This is what the air smells like after you've blown out a spice-based candle. Waxy-smoke and inscense. A very nice mood smell, actually. I liked it quite a lot.
Nocturnal-- Black clothing & dark streets... The smell of clove mixed with patchouli & nag champa.
Headshop. I didn't get much clove, but I got the patchouli and nag champa, for sure. This smells exactly like the inside of a Record & Tape Traders. Blech.
Samhain-- Spicy and sweet... The smell of Halloween candy, changing leaves & Autumn spices.
If you've smelled Yankee Candle's Harvest scent, you've smelled this. It's your typical Autumn candle scent, but a little bit sweeter. I didn't mind that it wasn't terribly unique, because it's an old standby done well, and I think I will order a conditioner in this scent.
Seattle Rain-- Clean & fresh... The smell of a down pour, a hint of the ocean & mountains.
Smells like clean laundry, actually.
Season's Greetings-- A classic commercial Christmas scent...Pines, fruits and sweets, Over shopping with tired feet.
Maybe the sample I got was bogus or something, because I only smelled very faint pines.
Shadows-- Subtle & warm... The smell of musk and other incense of darkness.
This was like an Egyptian Musk scent with the addition of a little smoke and pepper. Not very heavy. It's like Goth Lite.
Tea & Sympathy-- Quiet, warm & sweet... The smell of a nice pot of tea, sweet treats and roses.
Is my nose broken? Everyone I've heard reviewing this scent says "pure tea," but I got almost no tea. I did get roses and sandalwood, and almost a musky base. This smelled a lot like Dervish. I wasn't overly impressed.
Vanilla Hell-- Toasted to a nice brown, as if spending just enough time but not over staying its welcome. Enjoy Vanilla's quick trip to Hell.
Too sweet for me-- it reminded me very strongly of BPAL's Gluttony, which had a really buttery hazelnut note. This is extremly food-y, but far too rich for my tastes. Almost cloying.
Wicked-- Wonderfully tempting... The smell of supple black leather & tobacco.
Dammit. Stinkin' tobacco note. I love leather, and this is really nice, but tobacco notes always turn me off. They're a bit too off for me. This would be really lovely on someone else. Just not me.
I tried to take a soothing bath this afternoon. I used Fantasy Bath's Desert Rose bath bomb, and while lighter than the other fragrances, the sandalwood rose was nice. It turned the bathwater a milky rose quartz color. I did like The Wild Rose better, but this was certainly not bad. I do have to make another Fantasy Bath order, though. I'm down to my last three bath bombs. Woe! Anyway, I said that I *tried* to take a bath. The bird would absolutely not allow me to relax-- she screamed her goddamn head off from the moment I turned on the water. Just to illustrate how loud she is-- I closed the door to her room, I closed the door to the bathroom, I ran water, plugged my ears, and sank under it, and I could still hear her. She was having a total shitfit, and she didn't let up until I gave up after twenty minutes and got out. She was giving me a total headache, and I just couldn't relax with her shrilling. The next time I try to take a bath, I'm going to overload her with pudding first so she'll be too glutted to scream. Bitch.
