Top 5 Guilty Pleasures

So, there's a meme going around, and all the cool kids are doing it. Hence, I list.

1. Retail Therapy. I internet-browse way too much, which leads to spending too much on impulse buys. A cute little make-up palette? I've got to play with it. A pair of dangly earrings that only matches one outfit? Here's my card. A colorful, fizzy, smelly bath doohickey? Into the tub! Lately, it's been small gourmet-fest. High quality teas and chocolates. Good sushi. I like small luxuries. It's just my wallet that doesn't.

2. Falling asleep with my makeup on. This ties with falling asleep on the couch. Sometimes, getting ready for bed is just too much hassle, and it feels so good to just drift off as-is.

3. Magazines. I feel so bad, because I read them once and that's it. Still, I like Bust, Marie Claire, Allure, and on occasion, Lucky. I used to read Cosmo, but it's honestly the same thing over and over again, so I got tired of shelling out $3 an issue.

4. Watching Queer as Folk. Usually, my TV obsessions have some redeeming depth-- Buffy, Firefly, The L Word. Sadly, QAF has a tendency to be sloppily written and campy-- some of the plots make my brain ache. And much as I love Brian, Gayle Harold wasn't really cast for his emotional range, you know? Still, there are things that keep me coming back-- notably, my big flaming love for Emmett Honeycutt. And my less firey, but still ardent love for Michael, Ben, and Ted.

5. Young adult novels. I read lots of them. I can play it off like I'm researching the new stuff in the genre, since that's what I tend to write, but honestly, I just enjoy reading things reminiscent of my first fannish loves. Of course, I have standards-- well-written YA only-- but it's still a guilty pleasure. Maybe it's that YA lit has a strong genre fanbase, whereas I have a hard time finding good adult genre books. Who knows.
