Happy New Year!
So. I got a really nice compliment today, if a kind of odd one.
While I was digging through my packed-away belongings to find my candles, I found a MAC gift card that Racheal gave me for my birthday. I'd completely forgotten about it. And so, today, I dragged Skyler to MAC, with the intention of finding the perfect red lipstick. This, you see, has been a lifelong quest. I am very fair-skinned, so I tend to shy away from more vivid colors. I'm starting to come out of that since I've fallen in love with Urban Decay.
I'd only been to MAC one time previously, and it was to buy Gleam eyeshadow, which is a very lovely pinky-gold that flatters my paleness very nicely. Today, I splurged a little. I got a 4-pan palette featuring Mythology (a pinked bronze), Bamboo (a matte neutral beige), Trax (a deep purple overlaid with gold) and Idol Eyes (a blue-tinted silver). I also got an Enchantress lipglass (a sweet pinky-peach) and Russian Red lipstick (a slightly blue-tinted true red). That was spending quite enough thank you, but if I go back, I might get Motif and Expensive pink. Maybe some colored eyeliners, too, since I'm getting tired of plain black.
As I was browsing about, a woman stopped me and asked for help picking out eyeliner.
"Sure," I said. "I can give you my opinion, but I don't actually work here."
She looked really confused for a minute, and she studied my face. "But... but you're so attractive!" she exclaimed.
It was my turn to be confused. "Thank you?" I guessed.
"Your makeup is so nice that I just assumed!"
All and all, a nice compliment, if a strange one. I was wearing Urban Decay's Acid Rain (soft goldy-green) and X (shiny gold-pink) on my eyes, and Stila's Ava lipstick. Not one product was a MAC product.
Also, I love my dorky boyfriend. We were listening to the Serenity soundtrack, which led him to wonder if panpipes denoted Wash in the score. We hear panpipes in the TV score for Firefly too, and often during a chase sequence involving Serenity. I surmised that you could look at it either way-- panpipes could denote either Wash in his pilot's zone or a Serenety air-chase. Skyler then pontificated on Wash as the spirit of Serenity herself, and Serenity as and extension of Wash's body. I was very amused, and a little bit touched. I love moments of shared geek-love.
Big New Year's party tonight. I got lots of Asti for the toast, plus some reds that I like-- Estancia makes a wonderful pinot noir that is my current favorite, and the other two were themed-- one is called "Firefly," and I've never had it before, the other is "Frontier Red," which I have tried before and liked. I'll try to remember to take pictures of the labels-- if I'm not too buzzed, that is. I do love my reds. They'll go nicely with the raspberry Godiva chocolates that fizz in your mouth when you pop 'em.
Happy New Year! Stay safe, call cabs, get designated drivers. I can't read your livejournals if you're in the hospital, you know.
