Ego-non-somnio

I have not slept well at all for the past few nights.

Last night, I crawled into bed around 1am, and I was awoken very close to 4am by the sound of a screaming cat. Now, I know the difference between a cat in pain and a cat in heat, since I've grown up around them. This thing was screaming for its life, and it was doing it right outside my window.

I blinked a few times, then tossed on boots and a jacket. Ice still covers the ground in some places, so I made my way very carefully throught the front door and out alongside the house. Sure enough, there was a cat, and it was being attacked by some dark-hued creature that I couldn't identify in the pitch dark. It didn't look like another cat-- the figure was too lumpy, and it didn't move like a cat, either. A raccoon, maybe? Anyway, I shooed the thing off, and the cat made it up a tree and away. I only hope it wasn't too injured to live.

I hurried back in the house and threw off my coat, hoping to get back to sleep. But no. The commotion had woken Jaques, my mouse. He was now nervously gnawing at his wooden house and scraping about. Oy.

Last night, I went to bed around midnight. I slept pretty well-- until dawn, in fact-- before I was awoken yet again by a raucous squawking. Dixie's parrot, Gypsy, seemed to be in a complete panic. Ordinarily, Gypsy can be a little bit of a diva, but it's generally not that irritating. This morning, she was doing her best Streisand imitation. I almost stuffed that little sucker in a dark drawer, because she kept on going until the very minute I walked out the door for work. If this happens on a Saturday morning, I might just have myself a delicacy-- roast parrot.

I also woke up with a 3/4" red scratch on my left cheekbone, and no idea how it got there.

On the plus side, internet installation will not cost me nearly as much as I had budgeted for, and I have a little more wiggle room than I thought I would. What does this mean, you ask? It means that I'm going to surf around Sephora and maybe put in a tiny order this weekend. Tarte has a lipgloss called Baby & Johnny, and I'm way too much of a Dirty Dancing fan to pass that by. I also want to try the new sample pallette of Benefit's concealers.

Also, I'll have cable internet in my home on next Saturday! Whee!
