I take back what I said about wanting to be cemented.
For any of you who might be tempted to rent Love Me If You Dare / Jeux d'enfants... uh, don't.
It was terrible. I don't know how a film with such stunningly gorgeous people in the main roles could suck so badly, but it did. The cinematography was to die for, and there were some cute moments and some interesting dialogue. But overall? I hated the characters and the plot more and more with each passing frame. One can be both selfish and in love, but I wouldn't recommend mistaking one for the other.
Also irritating is that the translated title is so misleading-- the French title ("Childrens' Games") is much closer to the film's core. This flick was more Dangerous Liasons than a romantic comedy, and about one-eighth as good. Of course, I have no problem with twisted love stories, because love can be both glorious and cruel-- but there's something just tacky about a wannabe wolf in Amélie's clothing.
Boo. And I'd heard such good things, too.
