This is my brain on drugs, even if said drug is only DayQuil.
Dear Texas,
What the fuck?
It's somehow okay to deprive your fellow Texans of equal rights? I am of course referring to your passing Proposition 2, banning gay marriages. How does anyone entering a legal arrangement such as "marriage"* in any way devalue your marriage, or are you just that insecure and reactionary? I get that you, as Christians, might think that marriage is solely-hetero and a covenant with Jesus. However, that's your own covenant with God.
I might add that your definition of marriage does not apply to those of other religions, or those who have no religion at all. Why, then, should your religious morality apply to gay couples? Last time I checked, Christianity wasn't a national religion, and we are not required to follow Christian laws. Love is love. A loving family is a loving family. Stop forcing your religion on others, for the love of a non-denominational God, okay? What's next, telling barren couples that they can't marry because they can't have children?
*see rant #3.
Dear 10% of Texans who are sane,
Thank you for voting against Proposition 2. You give me hope. One of these days, we'll see this "equal rights" thing that America is supposedly all about. Won't that be nice?
Dear Lawmakers,
Civil union: a legally-binding contract between two people.
Marriage: a legally-binding contract between two people, blessed by their religious officiary.
Stop mucking things up with semantics.
Dear France,
What the fuck? Did y'all run out of brie and wine or something?
Note: Yes, I know the actual cause of the civil unrest that's been going on. But seriously, we're going into week two of violent rioting. At a certain point, the government needs to use force to protect the innocent.
