I am full of nummy sushi goodness.
Last night, Annabean and I went to XS, this really cool restaurant in Mount Vernon. Here's the concept: they only sell craving foods. Breakfast all day, a full sushi bar, an espresso bar, decadent desserts, gelato, specialty drinks. The restaurant itself is very stylish, Fell's Point-esque. Brick walls, brushed metal, hardwood. Industrial chic. And, to further prove that it's the best restaurant ever, happy hour features all their individual sushi pieces at $1 a pop.
We started with the miso soup, which was really flavorful and full of tofu cubes. Anna and I went to town on the sushi. We got a 6-serving Volcano Roll platter (tuna, crabmeat, cucumber, fried roll, and spicy sauce) that was out of this world, the sushi regular (8 pieces of chef's choice sushi and tuna roll), a few pieces of eel, and Anna had some red snapper. It all came nicely presented with a little purple dendrobium orchid on the glass platter. We had all of that, plus coffees for dessert, and I had a drink for $50. All things considered, that's really good.
My only gripe was that the drink I tried (the Bacardi-based 'H2O') wasn't very good. It tasted like a badly-made Cosmo. Still, it was really pretty. I have a complete weakness for things that come in oversized martini glasses, and the drink was a pretty Carribean blue with a little red mermaid floating her tail in it.
I'd definitely go back. I want to try more of the sushi bar for sure, and the cinnamon-banana stuffed french toast looks amazing.
But we had a good time. We went to Victoria's Secret so I could snap up one of the convertible halter bras (in which my cleavage is positively traffic-stopping), and I got a free mesh panty because I'm a member. I love that store so much. Plus shopping online with them is really great-- the dress I got was slightly too large, so I sent it back. They shipped a new one immediately, and will credit my account back when the wrong one is received. It's due to arrive today. The customer service is so so much better than Frederick's.
Anna and I spent the rest of the ride home contemplating stripper names after I told her about my Ritz excursion. 'Marshmallow Creme Puff' would be good, she said. Or how about My Little Pony names? We were laughing so hard I'm surprised we didn't get into an accident. On the more serious side, I've always kind of had the itch to do burlesque, so maybe outlandish is good. :)
Thank you, Annabean. I had a muchly good time. I'll call you about next week once I know. Lalalala.
