Work is almost done.
We've had a cool spell of late in my little part of the world-- massive thunderstorms at night and overcast skies in the day have brought the mecury down considerably. While some have complained about the wet weather, I am completely in love with it.
I delight in gray, brooding skies as I anticipate the change of seasons. The temperature in my room is finally liveable again, brief though it may be, and the sound of rain pattering against my windows is calming as I sip a steaming mug of spiced tea. I love to light a cinnamon candle and open my windows so that the wind whips my venetian blinds and charges my room with anticipatory energy.
I've got much to do this evening. I read about a third of Valiant last night and then turned in early, exhausted as I was. It was incredibly satisfying. Today I have to put the finishing touches on a few gifts, work on some new graphics, and do more reading. A lazy evening, and it's welcomed. I have a good weekend coming up-- I have a little extra time to spend with Sky, and then
belladonnastrap and I are meeting up on Monday for lunch and Godiva chocolate.
My retail urges of the day:
Femaledictions: Gothic-tinged body products. I hoarde Halloween/Autumn scents. It's my addiction. And they have a Sleepy Hollow scent described as "Autumn's haunted woods." I do believe when the proprietor opens the shop once more a sampler pack is in order.
Dark Candles: Gothic candles that come very highly recommended. Their Halloween votive pack looks too good to resist. As Samhain draws near, I'm likely to acquire a few sets, along with the limited edition scents that they have in store.
I also want to test out Dawn Spencer Hurwich's Halloween oil, because I hear it's particularly trick-or-treaty.
BPAL's Autumn scents should begin to surface mid-September. I'm hoping for Pumpkin King, which was only released to moderators, and I was lucky enough to have a dear friend who decanted me an imp. It's like pumpkin cheesecake, rich with thick cream and nutmeg. I'd love for Beth's take on a Sleepy Hollow scent, something reminiscent of a thick gray-blue twilight fog full of dread and anticipation. A mythic Salem scent would be sweet, too-- a New England herbal with the slighest tinge of gallows' wood and leather from a dusty grimoire.
Whatever it is, I'm certain to be bowled over. I wore BPAL's Samhain today, and it's lovely blend of damp fir and pumpkin. Sometimes, I get mulled apples, too. Three Witches is a marvelous spice blend as well, but sadly, I've only got a tiny bit to cherish. I've got an imps of Scarecrow (dry Autumnal grasses) and Jack (pumpkin, clove, and spice), on the way, and I've yet to try Verdandi, which is a dark apple blend. I was lucky to get a bottle of Hamadryad, which smells like a fresh cinnamon stick in misty green woods, and it's a great rainy-day scent. I also have Mabon, which is a divine blackberry wine and ivy limited edition, and with luck, this year's Harvest Moon will be the same as last year's, full of buttery hay notes. I'm swapping for Hexxenacht, as well, which isn't explicitly autumnal, but it's deep and green and brooding nonetheless. I need some Hesperides (which is The Magic Hour in a bottle), and my BPAL fall collection will be nearly complete! I love the anticipation of good things to come.
Hmm. I should review my Autumn-y Yankee tarts. After I update my BPAL review page, that is. It's so sorely out-of-date.
