Is it September yet?
Time for a change.
I'm thinking I might start with my bedroom. For years, it's been painted white with one boysenberry-colored accent wall. I want something warmer-- sun-baked terracotta or the rust red of turning leaves or a rich golden yellow like harvest wheat. Something close to the Earth, something Autumnal. I'm thinking of repainting, buying a new, comforting bedspread and some body pillows. Maybe a rug and some Art Nouveau prints. I want my room to be more of a haven, and of late, it's been so cluttered and uninspiring. The heat has been completely oppressive on top of that-- it's not even August yet, so we have at least one more sticky month to go. As ususal, I find myself longing for the cool of the coming fall months too early.
I need to buy a new fall wardrobe as well. Almost all of my sweaters are stretched out, and I'd like a few more pairs of slacks. Something not black, something not so harsh. Maybe a rich, warm brown and a few cowl-necked sweaters.
Fall scents are beginning to peek out. Sky an I were in a Yankee store on Monday and I bought a dozen tarts of their fall scents-- spiced pumpkin and mulled apples, wistful woodsmoke and cinnamon sticks, husky clove and smooth ambers. I can only imagine what Beth has up her sleeve for this year's Halloween blends. I acquired a bottle of Hamadryad, and I have Lughnasadh, Mabon, and Samhain from years past. I want to get some Jack to round out my collection. I am powerless in the face of Autumn-themed sniffies, spiced teas, warm harvest orange sweaters.
Long days at work have been making me cranky. Last week was not so hot, either, considering I spent much of my weekend in bed with a bitch of a kidney infection. I think I might clean my room and do some laundry when I get in. I've been up at 4:45 every morning to get in here and run the dock by 6am, since the assistant manager has been off. Luckily, I get off a little early on Saturday, and I'll get a jump on the weekend. I can't wait to get into the city on Monday and check out the dendrobium orchids at Cross Street Market.
