I might not be incredibly broke after graduation. Neat-o.
Wow. It's Sunday night. Already.
It was quite the long weekend. It was Spring Fling, as I noted in my last post, and until ten or so tomorrow morning, the hall is strewn with beer cans, cups, and puke. Oh, apartment 1-F, how I wish you'd fall into a black hole. The party they threw Friday night was humongous. So much so that I got a call from a neighboring apartment today that detailed a brawl that broke out, spilled into their apartment, and punched a huge hole in the wall. God knows why they didn't call me or Campus Safety at the time, but... well. You get the picture.
As for the rest of the weekend, I went to a Passover seder with Skyler's extended family, to a christening with mine, to a bridal shower, and to a birthday party. Someone needs to explain to me why every female in my family between the ages of 20 and 30 has a child or is expecting a child. Admittedly, I'm not always the most comfortable around young children (babies squall at about a 5' radius of me), but I was aswarm with them today. I even managed to hold a few for more than five minutes. Anyway, the next aunt or friend-of-a-friend who asks me if I have baby names picked out is gonna get whacked. My biological clock, while softening to the little grimy germy ones, is not exactly ticking just yet. I'm not in college for an honorary Ms. degree, you know?
Church went quite well today. There was a bishop in attendance who was quite neat. I learned that a mitre is actually supposed to represent a flame. My dingbat of a younger sister then asked me "why is the priest guy carrying a pimp staff?" Ohh, Andrea. So pretty. So stupid. ;) My one year-old cousin, Jake, who was christened today, has learned how to do the "Blue Steel" face from Zoolander on command. He did it to the bishop, who promptly cracked up. Ahhh, priceless memories.
Also, I am much relieved that I have a job lined up for post-graduation. My stepdad's boss mentioned to him recently that it's too bad that I'm Adrian's daughter, because he'd love to hire me (they have all sorts of family hiring rules). Adrian mentioned that we're not related by blood, nor do we share the same last name. In response, I'll be getting all of the necessary paperwork soon. Knock on wood, I'll be working for Cory Holdings for $12/hr + benefits after three months. It's enough to start on student loans, pay rent to the fam, and get a car after a few months, and as a transitory thing, I say good enough. I don't have to love it, I just have to do it while I get on my feet financially. I'll most likely end up either dispatching or managing a shipping dock. Adrian mentioned that one of the reasons I was thought about is because I'm strong-willed, which apparently the job entails. There is apparently lots of difficult people-managing... which, considering I've been doing that for about three years, seems to be something I'm qualified for. So. Yay.
The downside is that this means I'll be moving home for six months to a year. Boo to that. I talked terms with my mother today. We've decided on $300 for rent per month. I'm to have internet access to my computer, and there is to be a separate phone line for mine and Matt's use. Andrea is on the phone near constantly, and I don't feel like fighting her every time I try to make a call or check my email. I might also request a new door, because the one I have doesn't always stay closed, and I have fish and cats, which are unmixy things. As far as freedom goes, one I have a license/car, things will be better. However, my house is about, oh, the least private place ever. Ever.
Here goes nothin'. Off I go to grocery shop and feed herbal tea to a sick boy.
