I should be in bed. These are in no particular order.
Christina's 10 Favorite Songs of All Time
1. Peter Gabriel -- In Your Eyes
In your eyes / the light, the heat
In your eyes / I am complete
This is my favorite love song of all time. This is my ideal of love. And before you ask, the first time I saw Say Anything was last year.
2. Counting Crows -- Colorblind
I am ready / I am ready / I am ready / I am... fine
This song is so cutting in its honesty. It strips everything down to images that make sense on a very intuitional level. I like to sing this one, but my voice will never break hearts like Adam Duritz's.
3. Cocteau Twins -- Blue Bell Knoll
Okay, so the lyrics are unintelligible. Doesn't matter. If my YA novel ever gets made into a movie, this will be the opening credit song. It will be.
4. Garbage -- You Look So Fine
You look so fine / I want to break your heart / and give you mine
Um. Pretty much the sexiest song ever.
5. Dave Matthews Band -- Crash Into Me
Hike up your skirt a little more / and show your world to me
Yes. I am a DMB fan. All you DMB haters can kindly suck it. And yes, this is kind of a cliché of a favorite DMB song, but I have loved it forever and ever.
6. Matchbox Twenty -- Time After Time (cover)
If you're lost / you can look /and you will find me / time after time
I love Cyndi Lauper as much as the next child o' the eighties, but it's Rob's voice that brings this song to life. Another of my favorites to sing to.
7. Solomon Burke -- Cry To Me
Did I dub something the sexiest song ever? Uh, I lied. This one is. If you know me, you know why.
8. Tori Amos -- Precious Things
I wanna smash the faces / of those beautiful boys / of those Christian boys / So you can make me come / it doesn't make you Jesus
Happy Phantom. No, Father Lucifer. No, Raspberry Swirl. Mother. The cover of Case of You. Fuck, I had to pick one.
9. U2 -- One
One love / one blood / one life / you got to do what you should
Oh, hell. Bono is God.
10. Madonna -- Like A Prayer
Just like a prayer / your voice can take me there
I have avowed myself a lifelong Madonna fan. She's been really trying my patience with this Kabbalah shit, but her old stuff is the soundtrack to my childhood. This one narrowly edged out Respect Yourself and Human Nature.
Honorary Mentions --
Delerium feat. Mediaeval Baebes -- Aria
Lizzie West -- Chariots Rise
David Gray -- As I'm Leaving
Sophie B. Hawkins -- Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover (*Ducks*)
Bjork -- Alarm Call (Why do I not listen to more Bjork?)
Frou Frou -- Let Go
Damien Rice -- Volcano
Nine Inch Nails -- Closer (Sometimes, you just have to scream along.)
Savage Garden -- I Want You (This song is my absolute favorite cheese song. I know every word.)
Tom McRae -- Mermaid Blues (This one has been known to rip me to bits.)
Vienna Teng -- Gravity
...and Five Recent Favorites
Portishead -- Roads
Snow Patrol -- Run
Bright Eyes -- Lover I Don't Have To Love (Yes, go listen to Bright Eyes and kill yourself. I know.)
Joseph Arthur -- In The Sun
Aqualung -- Strange and Beautiful
Geekdom.
