I have cold feet.
About my hair, that is. For the show, I'm supposed to be dyeing my hair a rich espresso brown. The problem with this is that to get it that color and back to a lighter, bronzy color will cost somewhere around $60 in product alone, including dye and bleach. And I really prefer to lay off the bleach-- so far, I've only done extensive bleaching once, and my hair was straw-like for weeks. I talked to Joy, the director, and asked if a) the character's hair color could be changed or b) I could get a wig. I'm okay with maybe doing a temporary wash, but even temporaries stick in my hair for quite a bit. It shouldn't be so strong that I'd have to bleach it, though. She said she'd talk to the costume designer about it, so I guess that's good. She offered to see if the $60-$70 was in the budget, but I waved her off. If we do a temporary color, $20 will be fine. In all honesty, I would have hated a permanent espresso brown. It's just not... me. At all. It would make me look like everyone else, or maybe Morticia Addams.
I had the urge to cut my hair really short today, though. Maybe after the show's over, I will.
In the interest of hair talk, I present to you:

I was born with black hair. Black hair that infact stuck straight up. Note the birthmark that to this day is my favorite feature.

Growing up, I had very blonde hair. It's darkened to a dishwater blonde with age, though. I don't have pictures from junior high straight through most of high school, though. I'm rather glad, though, because there was the Perm Of Doom somewhere in there, around seventh grade. As I recall, it followed the Bowl Cut Of Death. For the most part, my hair stayed a goldy-blonde through high school. Also, don't ask why my eyes have seemingly disappeared. It's a scan of a mid-80's snapshot. :P

Freshman year of college, year two of experimenting with reds. This was almost the darkest it got, a rich burgundy nearing brown as it faded.

Sophomore year of college. Dark dark red-brown. Not my favorite at all.

Junior year, I took scissors to my hair on a whim one day. This was the outcome, and I think it was damn cute. It's got a lot of body to it when it's short. If I do cut my hair again, it will probably be this length.

It's me rocking the Agent Scully look.

This was about the brightest red my hair's gotten, a true cardinal red. I'll admit that I'm just noting this because I love the picture.

This was one of my favorite shades of red. It was much brighter than it seems in the pic, but it wasn't quite flaming red.

Last summer I went for a radical change-- blonde with streaks. It looked cool for a while, but was hard to maintain.

Growing out my hair. This is about the time I got sick of the blonde. It got a little too light for my tastes and started to wash me out. I then dyed my hair a nice light brown with blonde highlights. I have a good picture of this phase, but it's really, really emo.

The coolest hair in the world.

I impulsively cut in bangs about three weeks ago.

The pink is washing out now, and I have a really neat bronze-coral-baby pink effect going on.

And this is from today, with my hair in a bun. The goldy color is what I hope to do after the show is done. The color I've got my eye on is L'Oreal Feria's Blush Blond, and maybe I'll put a fat pink streak down the left side.
So what say you? Which look was the best? Which do you detest utterly? I personally think that a medium-light pallette is best for me, but I'm curious.
