Good morning, world.
I'm continually astounded by the No Pity, No Shame, No Silence discussions that have been going around. When you hear the statistic that one in four women will be sexually assaulted or raped in her lifetime, it's so easy to get overwhelmed and ignore it. It's a completely different thing when you find out just how many of your friends and aquaintances it has happened to. As for me, I have been lucky enough never to have been the victim of sexual violence. This has not been the case for many of my friends-- I'd say 25% is a pretty accurate fit, and it does not just stop at women.
You deserve the right not to be scared, and not to be shamed. You deserve highest respect above all because you survived something incredibly traumatic. It might have shaped you or scarred you, but it didn't end you. You fought back. And I respect you for it.
