Nostalgic child of the 80's talking.
I've had the most amazing icon block lately. It's not for lack of good prompting--
icon_spark has thrown out some amazing challenges in the past few weeks, and for a myriad of reasons, I've created *squat.* I know that some of those reasons are time constraints and other interests, but I know that another is that I just need a little break from BtVS/ATS. I feel like I'm constantly looking at the same caps, and that the utter *blah* I feel isn't exactly productive. However, I need new icons. I'm tired of many of the ones I have, and I want more variety.
So instead, in the next few weeks, I'll be making and posting random movie icons. Potential topics: Dirty Dancing, Whale Rider, The Fifth Element, Romeo & Juliet, 28 Days Later, The Princess Bride, The Neverending Story, Secretary... I'll take requests on Lost and Delerious and The Craft, too, since I came across quality screencaps. So if you like those movies and would like to request something specific, now would be the time to tell me so.
But now we come to the real point of this post. And that point is that my oft-neglected schmoopy side sincerely believes that Dirty Dancing is hands down one of the sexiest movies ever. I grew up with the movie, and it shaped my views rather profoundly, I'd say. I've since had a lingering desire to learn how to ballroom dance, or specifically, to tango, but I've never had the time or opportunity.
I sincerely believe that this scene is one of the most awesomely sensual, heat-inducing scenes ever:

Ever. It's the song, and the slow gyrating of hips in unison, and bared necks salty with sweat, and the shedding of girlish lace for a woman's skin. It's the full body, slow burn charge of a first sexual encounter.
Sure, the dialogue might be clunky at first, but it's so earnest, so easy to relate to. But then the dialogue stops and the song starts. And I melt into a puddle upon the floor.
The movie is so sensual, so intrinsic to the body, not to mention gorgeously shot::

Not to mention, I didn't really think about it until much later, but one of my favorite scenes had always been this one:

I had always liked Penny's hands on Baby's hips, the three of them moving together, so sexually. Subtext. It's all about the subtext, baby.
And that song-- I associate it with my own personal pinnacle of longing and desire. If I had a masturbatory fantasy, this would be it. I own both soundtracks. Playing Solomon Burke's Cry To Me in a dimly lit room will make me want tohave sex with you take off my clothes and dance slowly. It will. And it's all because of that scene. I'm flushed just thinking about it.
