Brain Candy: academia girl loves YA novels
I just placed my first ebay bid. I can see this getting addicting. What did I bid on? Books #1-3 of the Circle of Three series by Isobel Bird. Circle of Three is a young adult series about three teens learning Wicca. I happened upon four or so of them the last time I took my sister to the library in the city, which I will not have access to this summer. I found them to be accurate and entertaining, and I wanted to have them kind of as teaching aids and also as examples of how to plot YA novels. But anyway, there are 15 books in the series. I'll keep my ear to the ground because some of them are out of print (#9 is $45 on amazon!), but hopefully they'll be reprinted. Until then, I'll troll ebay and the amazon used list. If you're interested in looking at them, I marked them on my wish list for quick linkage.
Nostalgia: I also want to buy a few Christopher Pike books that I haven't read to have the books should they also go out of print. I of course have my favorites (Master of Murder, The Midnight Club, The Last Vampire, Tales of Terror 1 & 2), because they were instrumental to my adolescent imagination and drive to write a YA novel. There are a couple I have left to read, and they're like brain candy for me. Also, after I get The Blind Mirror, Alosha is set for a July release. Lots of interesting books coming out this summer.

Unbelievable censorship in New Mexico high school.
Apparently poetry is supposed to be completely patriotic sunshine and roses. Ugh.
That said, I got Venecia Rauls' The Second Circle in the mail today. I'm gonna go make tea and curl up with it.
