When I'm working, I tend to have something on tv or my laptop-- looking up helps me refocus my eyes, which helps me work longer. And I don't know why, but I don't find things with dialogue and plot as distracting as I do, say, music. I think because I want to sing along to music.

Anyway, I digress. At this point, I've basically seen half the English language tv shows available on Netflix. (Can't watch foreign ones, because I can't work and read subtitles at the same time.)

I came across 'Scandal' in the recently added category. I think Kerry Washington is super pretty, and also super smart, so I went for it.

I am pleasantly surprised! Of the 'team' that the show revolves around, half are women, half are not white, and the leader, who everybody acknowledges is a BAMF to whom they owe their unwavering loyalty, is a lady of color. The writing is solid (especially for a procedural), and though there's some suspension of disbelief going on (really? Olivia can get the President on the phone whenever she feels like? Really?), the plots are interesting. It reminds me a lot of Lie To Me in tone. Well, Lie To Me's first season, anyway, because after that, Cal becomes fucking insufferable.

I just checked, and it got renewed for a second season. So yay for that. You don't see too many shows these days with this racial and gender makeup, and I hope it succeeds.
