Friday was mostly uneventful. Went in to Terra Firma for my usual Friday shift, and was surprised to see that the rudest customer we've ever had was there. As I was scheduled to do sorting, this thankfully meant I got to hide from her, which is probably good because OMG she was so nasty, that I just know I would have been less than professional. After work, it was the final Transcendence rehearsal before Spoutwood, so we went over our three sets (each unique) and worked out transitions, getting everyone on the same page.
Came home to a bottle of Red Velvet wine by Cupcake Vineyards, courtesy of J, who wins at awesome-being. The tasting notes were "a heady nose of chocolate, deep rich blackberries, red fruits, and a creamy mocha finish that is unmistakable in its intensity and length. It's reminiscent of a blackberry chocolate cupcake with mocha coulis." Unnnnfortunately, I tasted no chocolatey notes, but it was an incredibly creamy berry wine with maybe the faintest hint of mocha. It was tasty. We attempted to watch some silly action movie, but fell asleep.
Saturday, we were supposed to go hiking, but the weather was pretty chilly where we were headed, so I opted to finish some work and we went to brunch at Bonjour French Bakery on Falls Road, at Anna's recommendation. HOLY WOW. I had a foccacia bread with cheese, artichoke, and olives, and it was soooooo delicious. J had the carmelized onion quiche, and we split some macarons. I don't know if our server was just naturally awesome or if she really liked us, but she comped our drinks for absolutely no reason and then gave us bags to fill up with bread, since we were their last customers of the weekend. Good bread-- fresh baked with rosemary, and fragrant. I had some for breakfast, and it was delicious. Long story short, I want to eat all of their pastries, so we will be going back.
I came home, full and happy, and promptly fell asleep. Which meant Nox promptly fell asleep on me. And when you have 15 lbs of purring contentment on you, you sleep deep.
Sunday, we headed down to DC to see the Hokusai exhibit at the Freer / Sackler. J is a huuuuuge Hokusai fan (I mean, obviously, with his giant Great Wave tattoo and all). We also checked out a little bit of the Air & Space museum, but the surprise winner was the Suprasensorial exhibit at the Hirshhorn. Exhibits that saturate you with light and texture to change your perception of reality. It was really fun! Definitely brought a smile to my face. I spent almost a half hour goofing off in Jesus Rafael Soto’s “Blue Penetrable BBL." Highly recommended!
I had delicious dinners both nights-- salads with cranberries, pecans, avocados, and blue cheese. Saturday it was paired with crab-stuffed flounder, Sunday with the new faux-chicken strips from Trander Joe's that are so like the real thing, I can barely taste a difference. Overall, a fun, playful weekend.
Now, back to the real world. Flissy & I are running Verve's pieces for Spoutwood as soon as she gets here, then I have a MOUNTAIN of work to get through today if I want to have an update up tomorrow or Wednesday. Ciao!
