Life stuff. Last week, we got a fuckbuncha rain. When I came home from work on Wednesday, the creek behind my place was level with the grass and water was seeping in my living room. We got off pretty light-- we've had a company-provided dehumidifying fan running 24/7 since then and we're almost dry after they replaced a section of flooring. I hope they take the damn fan out today. It's scaring the cats. The first two days, Nox would not go past it to get to the litterboxes, and so we had to keep him in the bedroom. Where he refused to come out. Friday, I sat with him in my lap and inched closer and closer to it, petting him and relaxing him, then carried him over to the litterbox. Once he figured out it wasn't going to eat him, he's been more relaxed about it. It's still really freaking noisy. "We've been watching TV with the captions on" noisy. Anyhow, a few buildings down, further down the hill, they had 16" of water in their living room and are currently being put up in a hotel until all of their carpet and insulation can be replaced.

Today's Jason's birthday. Last night, we went out to see Gaelic Storm with The Rovers as his present. Gaelic Storm ALWAYS puts on a kickass show, and last night was no exception. I seriously think their drummer is actually Animal from the Muppets. He's probably my favorite drummer of any band ever. He's awesome, and he plays mostly with his hands. Anywhoo, I'd love to do do one of their cruises sometime. It would be fun.

Aside from that... I've been working. Surprise, right? But I got the chance to see The Eagle, which takes place in Roman-occupied Britain circa 120 A.D. I was really pleasantly surprised. The cinematography was beautiful. It felt like going back in time. Jamie Bell was awesome and Channing Tatum... well, he was Channing Tatum, but you could tell he was trying. At least "confused and brooding" worked for the character. Honestly, another actor could have done more with the part, but there were enough other good things in the movie that I'd totally recommend it. It was better than the incredibly-similar Centurion by far.

I also saw the new Jane Eyre. I don't know why I keep seeing versions of Jane Eyre. Probably because I like Jane Eyre herself. But Rochester? Ew ew ew one of the worst characters ever written. Ever ever. Skeezy, smarmy, smug, keeps his crazy wife locked in an attic and lies to everyone about it. Hate that guy. And Michael Fassbender does NOTHING for me. (On a meta-note, I also find fandoms going wild for this guy to be gross. Because he's been accused of domestic violence more than once. Fandom? That should be a big red flag.) Anywho, Jane Eyre. Enh. Mia Wasakowska had her own sort of understated spark, but sometimes it was so understated (and similar to Alice from the latest Alice in Wonderland) that I found myself wondering if she was playing the part purposefully, or if that's just the way she is. I've heard she's great in In Treatment, and I love Gabriel Byrne, so maybe I'll see that.

Olive is still peeing constantly. It wasn't a UTI. It was cystitis. She hasn't had bloody pee in a long time, but she still has no control. Luckily, she loves being swaddled, so she's been pampered, wrapped in a towel, and cuddled all weekend. She's got no complaints on that score. Her fancy piddle pants jobbies should arrive later this week, god bless.

Oh! And I bought myself a new scimitar as an early birthday gift. 38" of gracefully curving awesome.

And that's all I got. I have a tooooon of work to do today, so I'm gonna get to it.
