* Dear weather, for serious, please give me some sunshine today. I really think all the gray is affecting my mood.

* Worked all day Friday, watched feel-good movies from my adolescence, including 10 Things I Hate About You and To Wong Fu, Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar. I miss Patrick Swayze.

* Did not get to have dinner with friends on Friday, as they had an issue come up. Ate the fondue anyway, while Jason told me a work trial and tribulation tale that made my jaw slack. Like, I worked there, I know that there are some seriously jacked things that happen from time to time. But this time? Wow. Just, yeah, wow.

* Watched World's Greatest Dad. Blackest comedy I have ever seen. While it was a good movie, I'm not sure I liked it-- the characters, save one, were all too reprehensible. Plus, there was Robin Williams peen.

* Watched Ink. It's an indie sci-fi/fantasy movie that came out this year. Shoestring budget, though the filmmakers really stretched that dollar. It was amaaaaaaaazing. Probably the best film I've seen all year. It was like Neil Gaiman + Dave McKean + Catherynne Valente + a little Dark City. A. Ma. Zing. Go watch it! Or better yet, go buy it. I totally did.

* Read ghost stories with a big bowl of Old Bay popcorn.

* There are some seriously cool Sihaya Designs collaborations coming down the pike this winter and spring. Scent addicts, brace yourselves!

* Finished my holiday shopping for J.

* Acquired sea salt caramels.

* Decided to do the Anonymous Holiday Love Meme. I don't usually, but I'm making an exception 'cause I've felt so weird lately. Will go through tonight and look for people I know.

So, not only is LJ making specifying a gender mandatory, it's also removing 'unspecified' as an option, and giving no option for transgendered and genderqueer folks. This is problematic. Send them feedback to let them know.

More info here.

ETA-- cool.

At this time, the code you reference is not live on the site, and will not become so in the future. We know that you, and many other users, have serious concerns about any requirement to specify gender, so we'd like to take a moment to explain events and our position further.

The intention of this code was to change the sign-up process to include a field for the selection of gender; that the code would completely disable the "Unspecified" option at the same time was deemed unacceptable. While the code in question had gone to our beta (testing) server, it had not gone to our production server, and will not do so due to this problem. Furthermore, we'd like to clarify that code posted to the changelog community is not always final, as such code must then go through the beta testing process and can often be changed before actual implementation.

Additionally, some erroneous information has been spread regarding the potential public display of the gender field. We would like to clarify that gender is not currently publicly displayed on the profile, nor anywhere else on the site, and there are no plans to change this behavior.

Regards,
LiveJournal Community Care Team

Seems to me that they have some internal issues, as all code posted to that community should be ready to go live as-is. Someone either mucked up in posting it there, or the outcry has 'em backpedaling. In any case, glad they're not implementing it. Fastest response from LJ CS evar?
