Getting up early for dance class on Saturday mornings is a blessing and a curse. On one hand, I don't get a lot of sleep during the week, and I tend to catch up on weekends, so when I drag myself out of bed at 9 on a Saturday morning, it feels a wee bit sacreligious. But on the other hand, once I'm in class, I'm fully awake and engaged, and I have the whole rest of the day to be creative and productive.
Last night was the night of 1000 birthdays, and I took a nice long walk by myself through my old South Baltimore neighborhood as the sun was setting. I ended up at the neighborhood bar, Hogan's Alley, which used to be Cox's Pub. Both my grandfather's (father's father's) 70th birthday party and my brother's (mother's son's) 21st birthday were taking place at the same bar. Meaning both sides of my family, and I'm talking about 40 people, were in full attendance at the same time. If you know anything about my family, this was the kind of bizarre juxtaposition that might well make your head explode. Seeing my mom and aunt make nice was very, very weird. Even my sister was on her best behavior. But hey, at least everybody was making nice, and that's certainly not nothin'.
Ended up doing a pub crawl with my brother in honor of his being of drinking age. The more time I spend with his fiancée, the more I absolutely adore her. I might have texted Tex while we were goofily singing along to 'Like a Virgin.' Met up with Shaun at McGerks, wherein all the girls are very hot but on the skinny side, and all the guys look like they're fresh out of the army. God, South Baltimore has changed so much since I lived there.
This morning I was tempted by an Old Bay bagel at Sam's only to have the last one cruelly snatched up by the person in front of me in the line. Got to see Jenny a little bit, and that's always good, 'cause she's always cool to hang with. Came home and took a fantastic bath complete with tea and bathtime reading. Plus Villainess's Jai Mahal scrub, which is totally yummy. I smell good, and I'm warm and clean. I'm about to start on some jewelry stuff. Overall, a totally great weekend.
