Good weekend. Long and exhausting weekend, but a good weekend nonetheless.

Started out with dancing on Friday night-- the band was meh (how do you forget the words to 'Zoot Suit Riot'? Really?), and there was far too much baby powder on the floor. I almost fell, one couple did fall, and Sarah injured her hip sliding. 'Twas good for the spinning, though, and multiple dances with 'Spinny' Scott (to differentiate between the other Scott) let me work on tracking while being spun 15 times in quick succession. We made it through the dance and to the diner, where many dirty jokes were told, and we kept getting sour looks from nearby tables. It's a diner at 2am. What else do you want? Was told by Favorite Waitress Cindy that she wears the jewelry set I made for her birthday and that she gets lots of compliments on it. Made me feel warm and fuzzy.

Saturday began with 6 hours' sleep. I haven't been sleeping nearly as much as I should be, and so I started the day a little ragged. We got into DC near 11 o'clock, and the walk down to the Tidal Basin revealed that only two cherry trees had retained their blossoms through the cold and wind. What a disappointment! With a week still left in the national cherry blossom festival, that's a terrible time for a cold snap! And as we're looking at the trees, it started flurrying. Yep. Yet again, I was in DC; yet again it snowed.

We met Chris and Sarah for a first trip through the Natural History museum. First of all, I have to say that I'm cranky. They've removed all of the awesome ancient Greek pottery and sculpture. They've removed the mummy. They removed the Goddess figurines. They're making room for a new ocean life exhibit, but still. What a disappointment. Anyway. There were orchids! Pretty orchids, in a setting that reminded me a little of Longwood Gardens' orchid room. The Sharry Baby orchids are still my favorite-- they have a sweet, sugary chocolate scent that is amazing to inhale. Due to the cold, the museum was basically impassable at that point-- people were packing in, and it was very difficult to walk. At 1:30 we headed off for lunch.

DuPont Circle, Teasim, 2pm. We met up with dagger_garnet and stridera, and I had Thai chicken curry, jasmine creme brulee and Moroccan mint tea. The table turned into a mass taste-testing, with everyone eating off of everyone else's plates. We saw the shops, and I got some cool stuff from Candleman and Beadazzled. We got hit on by a creepy dude, and the boys chased pigeons.

Back to the museums. We saw the light exhibit at the Hirshhorn, which had some really neat pieces. We also saw more of the Natural History museum after 5:30, when it was much less crowded. Dinosaurs are neat, the end. Dinner at Tono Sushi in Adams Morgan found me in an edamame + sushi food coma, and we had a a slight issue getting Matt and Tina back to Dupont together (damn those closing Metro doors!), but all was well in the end. Tina took lots of pictures, and I look tired in most of them. We also did a gift exchange-- I gave her a Czech glass wrap bracelet and a pair of dangly shell earrings, and she gifted me with an awesome Voluspa Baltic Amber candle that smells amazing-- not sweet, totally musky, just orgasmic. The Japonica packaging is totally beautiful, and 80 hr. burn time for a three-wick candle is impressive. I've burned it for the past few nights, and it's got great throw.

Got home, had three glasses of wine, woke up with a slight hangover on Zombie Jesus Day. This was rectified by aspirin, Coke, and quite a lot of chocolate. Easter with the fam crystallized for me that my maternal instincts have not yet kicked in. My cousins have all gone baby crazy in the last two years, so there were four kids at the table, ranging from four weeks to two years old. I'm getting better with kids, really. I like to make faces at them, but when they start squalling, man-- I am done. Done. Ditto with the puke and pooping. I came home smelling of baby vomit and showered posthaste.

Tonight is dinner with Don, so that'll be good. Other than that, I think I'm going to set aside Wednesday night to not have company, because I'm getting burnt out. I love my friends, especially the ones I rarely see, but I haven't had any time for myself of late. I keep saying that I'm going to make time, take time, etc-- but I never do. At this point, it's becoming something I need to do. Sunday may be a Mental Health Day as well. It's been about a month since I had time for a nice hot bath and a book in the tub. If there's scheduling stuff of which I should be aware, poke me. I know that Tribal Cafe is the 28th, and Karyn is coming to town soon. I want to plan in advance.

Oh, and I made some really awesome earrings-- 10mm A/B crystal discs hanging on a drop from a silver loop, and a 6mm Opalite round hanging inside the circle. They're very neat and sophisticated. Sara said that she assumed that I didn't make them because they looked so complicated, which I'll just take as a compliment.
