Last night was Ecumenica at The Black Cat in DC. I set forth with Agnes, her roommate, and her sister. On the way, we picked up yet more of Agnes' cool Goucher friends, in the rain, and still managed to show up unfashionably early. I was in my standard gear-- camoflage miniskirt, black fishnets, big stompy boots.

I did learn four things last night. Thing the first is that if you have an incredibly cool bartender, five rounds of drinks for seven people only costs $26.00. Thing the second is that it's fun to practice bellydance to goth music. Why? Because there are people around you who look so incredibly ridiculous that I'd be hard put to look more clueless than they do. So, score! I did have one chick come over while I was practicing knee shimmies and hip drops to say she and her friends were all trying to figure out how I was moving just the one buttcheek, and so I demonstrated. Har. Thing the third is that if you're unused to wearing high heels, they have a tendency to cause you to trip and fall... onto someone's lips, naturally. Thing the fourth was when I was told by someone I'd never before met that I look 'just like [my] pictures on LiveJournal,' which indeed amused me a little. I also learned the sign for "LJ" in ASL. Hee.

As for me, I had three rounds of drinks before Noelle and her cute friend, Cristina, arrived, at which point I stopped drinking because that seemed the best course of action if I wanted to seem cognizant enough to carry on a conversation. Shortly thereafter, Aster arrived and we all danced like big sexy dork monkeys. Because honestly, that's the best way I can think of to describe goth 'dancing.' So yes, picture this-- a throng of incredibly hot queer chicks dancing together. Savor that image. Mmmm.

Anywho, long story short-- fun was had, and everyone got home safely. As for my group-- our driver was a little to liquored up to drive by the time we reached the Metro, and so I had my first experience driving at night, in the rain. By that point, I hadn't had a drink for over three hours, and was stone sober, so don't worry. I drove cautiously slow because I'd never gone on slick roads before, but we all got home in one piece with no problems.

For now-- I've had some tea and banana bread, and I need a shower and a quick nap before swing dancing tonight. The rain is sluicing against my window, and the air is nice and cool. I'm very content.

ETA: A friend of a friend just moved to the DC area. She has a degree in PoliSci and is looking for a job. I know some people in that general field, and if you know of any job openings, lemme know and I'll pass it on. Thanks!
