So, I just wrote to my favorite author.

Waking The Moon has been my favorite novel for years now, and Elizabeth Hand's writing has become a stylistic role model in a sense. I've read almost all of her original work, with the exceptions of Aestival Tide and strangely, Winterlong. Mortal Love is staring balefully down at me from my shelf begging to be read, but I have to finish senior sem readings first.

As I mentioned, Michael Dirda passed along her email address to me after I'd brought in bits and bobs of her writing as examples of literature I admire. Apparently, they're old friends. He again suggested I write to her on Tuesday, after I told him that I had no idea what I was supposed to say. He laughed and said he'd told her that I might not write, since I didn't seem to be the gushing sort. The problem is that I didn't want to go completely fangirl, and I didn't want to be some imposing nobody. I finally got something down that I didn't think was either of the above, and after obsessively spellchecking it, I sent it off.

Now, if I could only get my hands on a copy of Bibliomancy. I've heard so much about "Cleopatra Brimstone."

Play update: Second night went better than the first! However, these &*$%*# false nails need to come off. It's shameful how long it took me to type these few short paragraphs.
