So I went to Walmart to buy a little hidey-hole for one of my bettas because my usual store was out. What I found horrified me. I found one guy with *no fins* His rot had eaten them away, and is at the perimeter of his body. To boot, there was a dead fly in his water. After having words with the manager and only getting 10% off, I brought him home. He's in a hospital bowl, and I added generous macaryn 1 & 2, aquarium salt, stress coat, and melafix. He doesn't move a lot and I fear he's gonna go in 48 hours or under. He looks absolutely awful.
His scales are a bit prominent, but from what I can tell, it doesn't look like dropsy, but his eyes are completely black and very flat. He's breathing very shallowly and can't seem to eat. He tried a pellet, and it popped right back out. He can't seem to get his mouth around it, though I suppose a will to eat is at least something. Before I leave in 5 minutes, I'll dig out a tiny bloodworm or two. That's at least a start. I do believe he might be blind. This is not a death sentence in and of itself, but it is an additional challenge.
However, he does have some white fuzziness around the perimeters where his fins used to be. I don't have any true fungus meds, so should he make it more than about four days, I will order some.
And oh, no one responded for *two* calls for assistance in the pet department. *TWO* I dipped him into a baggie myself (with Rac's assistance), and that was that. Fucktards!
This is absolutely morally reprehensible. I will be writing to Walmart just as soon as I have a spare 10 minutes.
