I just had the most joyful experience.
I walked down to Rite Aid to get some batteries because when I checked our campus store, there were no AAs left. While I was in Rite Aid, it started to absolutely pour.
The sky was slate gray, and the rainspouts were so overburdened that the water splashed over the edges. Thunder boomed overhead and every now and again, a purple spike of lightning would lance out across the sky.
I walked right past the people waiting on the shielded curb and stepped out into the rain. I walked all the way home.
The street that I walked to get home had turned into a river. The water, warmed by the ground, sloshed up above my ankles and I jumped in the giant running puddle like a four year old. Running to Stand Still got stuck in my head because of the line about stepping out into the driving rain, and so I started to sing it. I was soaked to the bone, and incredibly happy.
When I came back to my room, I realized that I'd left winamp on. The song playing? Running to Stand Still.
