Been doing more spending than I should. Augus and September may be on the financially-strapped side, but it's so all my fault. But at least I've been buying interesting things.
Some of what I've bought is a preliminary for Yule. I've figured out what I'm doing for my female friends. It'll be a bit time-consuming, but it should end up pretty damn cool, and it should save some money as well. I would write about it now, but some of those friends are on LJ. :P
Otherwise, I've bought some more herbs for this coming fall-- but I still lack a mortar and pestle. The cheapest one I've found was $11, but it was really heavy stone. I want white porcelain, but at this point, I may have to settle. At least my birthday is in September, because I've found far too many cool things at the local pagan shop. I'd like to get a small cauldron, one of which I've found for $23, and I found a chalice that I feel is right for me for $15. It's silver-colored, on the small side, and it has a pentacle on its side or in the dish (there were two similar ones that I liked). There were also quartz wands for $14.
I have bought some books-- two by Cunningham in particular... Natural Magic and his encyclopedia of herbs. While I was at the library, I also foud something astonishing in the Young Adult section-- a series about three young Wiccan girls who celebrate Sabbats and are learning the craft. It looked actually credible on one flip through, so I borrowed a few to check them out. I mean, it's right up my alley, considering I'm writing a rather metaphysical young adult novel (I'm thinking I might just post the racier parts on my LJ and omit them from the finished product).
Speaking of my novel, it deals with the story of Tam Lin, and therefore with fairy tradition, particularly that of the Celtic/Gaulish peoples. Does anyone know any resources (books, sites) I can use to investigate more minute details? So far, I've only gotten broad overviews or childrens' books. Are there any good books on modern fairy tradition, either? It's not my working area, but I may need to read up for my story.
Anyway, I'd like to tell about this girl, Nancy, I met at Barnes and Noble, but I'm a bit pressed for time. I'll write next time.
Til then,
Ta.
