So:

The good: I think Mike figured out the rebooting issue. I'm going to test it to see. Edit:: It's still rebooting.

The marginally good: It's doing it less often.

The bad: Because my computer rebooted so many times during installation, it somehow neglected to ask me for a product key. And without a product key, I cannot download critical updates. I will have to reinstall AGAIN now that it's not rebooting itself so I can enter said product key.

The other bad: XP took away my DVD player. I now have to buy an XP-compatible computer DVD player by the end of the year. I still have my Power DVD trial & patch, but it gives me no audio. Anyone know of an alternative? Grrgh.

The question: Is Windows XP product activation really necessary? The official site says that if you don't activate within 30 days, everything stops working. Mike says he's never had that problem.

The question 2: Is there a way to plug in a product key after installation? That way I don't have to reinstall again tomorrow?

Grrrrr. Arrrgh.
