What I did for Samhain is one thing-- what I did for Halloween is quite another. Let's talk about Halloween.
Hugh (
dosetsu) paid a surprise visit, and we sat around and watched haunted places specials on the travel channel. It was very interesting. I love ghost stories. As it turns out, the Farnsworth bed and breakfast, where we parked and hung outside of while waiting for our ghostwalk in Gettysburg, is the #1 most haunted hotel in the US, having over 12 distinct spiritual entities. Is it weird that I really want to stay there?
I ended up being Trinity from The Matrix. I slicked back my hair with half a bottle of mousse, wore a black tank and leather-like pants, and sunglasses. Mark lent me a gun, and voila- instant costume. Noble, I probably would have been Lara Croft, but Aster was Lara this year, so I didn't want to step on any toes. Heather went as Gracie Mae, from West Virginia, and Rac went as a witchy gothic person.
We went to Mike's party. I feel kind of bad for him-- he really put a lot of work into the decorations and food, only to have people get sick at the last minute or have to work. In his favor, the boy makes the best jungle juice ever. Mmm mmm good.
The thing is, he was out cold by 11pm. Nothing to do with the alcohol-- his neighbor had hit him in the head with a paintball. He was coherent when we talked, so I Doug and I decided not to force him to the hospital, even though he might have had a very mild concussion. Doug knew from experience that there's nothing you can do for a concussion except keep an eye on it.
The girls and I briefly stopped by my cousin Jamie's house for a bit so they could see the bare bones of the Haunted House she and her fiancee put up each year. They had 250 visitors in less than 4 hours. And I had more jungle juice. I was fairly loopy at this point.
So. Back at Mike's place I decided to let him stay in his mother's room, where he had passed out (if you don't know the sitch, he more or less rents an entire floor from his parents, and his parents were in Vegas for their 35st(?) wedding anniversary). I hung out back with his buddies until some of them left and I absolutely had to sleep around 2:30. I think it was almost good that Mike wasn't with us-- I'd never interacted with his friends on my own, and hopefully it helped distinguish me as an individual, rather than "Mike's girlfriend," which is sometimes how I feel when we're hanging in groups.
I knew that one would be staying the night, so I unplugged lights and put things away before taking a shower. It took three washes to get all the styling gunk out of my hair.
I crawled into bed close to 3, but the thing with Mike's mother's room is that there's a big vanity mirror directly facing the bed. I absolutely freak out around mirrors at night. I lay awake for about half an hour or so before I could go to sleep, curled around Mike and with a pillow over my head.
I got up at around 7am to let Daisy the dog out, and I noticed that Andy, the one who'd stayed the night, was asleep on the couch. He left Mike's bedroom free in case the mirror freaked me out too much and I just couldn't sleep there. How sweet is that?
When I got back up at 11, Mike woke up, too. He was feeling much better, and the ping-pong ball-sized knot on his head wasn't nearly as swollen. He made scrambled eggs and bacon and vegetarian sausage for the three of us for breakfast while I ate lots of leftover candy, and then we all watched MTV in our PJs. It was rather cozy.
Perfunctory visit to the parents, then I got back to school. I'm on duty for homecoming tonight, but the girls and I are gonna have Ledo's pizza and movie time, which will hopefully make me much less stressed out. The bass should start pounding in an hour or so... knock on wood that I won't have too many headaches.
My brother is probably visiting next weekend, Saturday to Sunday. I forgot all about the drum circle here Saturday night. Well, Mike will probably be here, too, so they can hang out, and anyway the circle is over at 9. If not... well, then I hope he likes drums. :)
