Struggling with "rest."
Today, I was supposed to be in DC to see the Pre Raphaelites again. They leave on the 19th, so I wanted to get an extra viewing in before then. This weekend is out, so I'd decided to go in on my own-- which I generally love if I'm in a browsing mood. Alas, when I woke up this morning, my uterus was trying to murder me, so that plan got scrapped pretty quick in favor of ibuprofen, cats, tea, and napping.
Last month, I worked nonstop. I wanted to take some breathing room this week in favor of rest, but now that the painkillers have kicked in and I feel more or less decent again, my brain is racing with things I ought to be doing. Stuff that I have dedicated time to do tomorrow, and yet, I have this weird urgency that I should be doing them right now. At some point over my period of self-employment, I stopped knowing how to rest.
At any rate, I am going to try to get lost in some books, or at least power through some of the slower sections in the books I have been struggling to finish. DC has been rescheduled for Monday, which may be even better, as it appears I will now have some company (hooray). I may try to sneak in to the Natural History museum and see some gemstones, as well.
I am also looking forward to hiking this weekend. As part of some therapy for both Jason and me, we made a pact that Sundays are going to be our dedicated hiking day, with scheduling as little as possible other than hiking and our routine dinner/tv date (it is widely known that the best tv comes on Sundays). I am thinking that I am also going to build in time during the week to go on walks in nearby parks as the weather gets nicer. I want to smell green things. I want to reconnect. (I also want to get in better shape.) I may even take some day trips in to Baltimore and walk around Federal Hill and lunch at the Cross Street Market because sure, why not?
One fun thing from the day-- I ordered a new pair of Docs. I have worn my black ones from college consistently, and although they are still impressively functional, the leather upper is a bit shredded. I bought these, and I hope I like the finish in-person. If not, well-- Zappos has fantastic return policies, and I'll swap 'em out for these (sans-ribbons) or maybe even these.
(I also bought two more thermal nail polishes because seriously, this stuff is hypnotic.)
One work note: in making a batch of white glitter wing earrings, I accidentally used a glow in the dark glitter. This has me thinking and I may do full-on glow in the dark prototypes very soon.
Okay, now to attempt this "rest" thing.
