My stress level is soaring.
I went to the bursar's office to pay off $175 that I owed on the previous semester. I had paid my mother $200 to do this, and she never paid the bill. So she wrote me a $175 check to do so. I'm already down $25.
It couldn't be that simple. Over two very tense meetings, I found that she hadn't paid this semester's bill either, which came down to $1,600 after my RA pay (that covers room and board) was factored in. I reduced my meal plan.
Now my balance is now -$1,454.25.
Because she didn't pay the bill for her part of my tuition. Considering my school costs $30,000 a year, and I work off/pay off w/scholarships everything but $3,000 a year, I'd say that's reasonable.
My plan: when she pays the bill, I'll cash in my 90 meal plan, which should be $625 after fees, and use the majority of that money on groceries.
The negative: The $1,225 that I would have cashed in had they paid the original bill is now kaput. Instead of using this to help with school books, I had to put those on my debit card, and I have $200 left. I haven't yet bought my $120 phone plan, and I may not, depending on how comparable this month's bill is.
The positive: I begin getting paid Oct. 10th. I still have over a hundred dollars in cash. Also, if I put in an insurance waiver, I get an additional $350 off the debit in my account, bringing me to -$1,104.25 for the semester that my parents must pay.
Grrgh.
