Oh, Beanchild.

So, about a month ago, Bean got a nasty scrape or something on her leg. We took her in to the vet, who declared it infection-free, and told us to keep an eye on it. We did. It scabbed, then seemed to heal.

Seemed. Tonight, J was cleaning Bean's toes (she'd fallen in the litter) and, um. Giant abscess. Giant. Full of fun and surprises, to put it mildly.

We slogged through the snow and icy roads to get her to the emergency vet, where they drained the wound and put her on a round of antibiotics. She did really well through the whole thing and hopefully it's a pretty straightforward course of action. It's also a hideous wound and they had to shave her leg. It probably will never grow back, just like her belly fur and the patch that's got only peach fuzz on it from way back when she had a spinal tap. We have now dropped over $10,000 in vet bills in the last 12 months.

Unnnnfortunately, it was $150, and I was already broke as a joke before this. Well. I have an update coming on Friday. And lots of prayers.

...at least our e-vet was really cute. Biracial with big clear seagreen eyes. Seriously gorgeous. (Also it's weird how J and I have pretty much the same taste in women. Well, except Olivia Munn-- I will never get what the deal is about her.)
