Weekend Report
-- Friday: whipped cream, pinot noir, strawberries, husband. 'Nuff said.
-- Saturday: subbed for Yvette at work, put some of my resin pendants up for sale at Terra Firma, made more Bollywood Bling bracelets. The resin pendants I made with vintage ad images turned out really nicely; I think I'll make some more once I find appropriate images.
-- Sunday: made a delicious breakfast: Mo's Bacon Pancakes from Vosges.

Divine.
We then napped with Olive for a bit, because she curled up on us and licked our cheeks and nuzzled us, and honestly, who can resist that? We woke up just in time to shower and get down to Tribal Cafe to see Asharah's farewell performance. It was stripped down, eloquent, full of emotion, so stirring and just... gah. Gorgeousness.
She wore the bare minimum in terms of tribal bling and it fit the performance so perfectly. I think I have a tangent post brewing in the back of my mind about costuming and performance, and Asharah's performance was a good reminder that the costume does not make the dancer. In fact, it's been an increasingly worrying trend I've noticed that many new-on-the-scene tribal dancers tend to turn to increasingly gimmicky costuming in the place of of developing their dance chops. And I can sort of understand that. I was a a new dancer who was all SHINY SHINY SHINY about costuming once, too. But when you're marketing yourself as a professional and taking pro gigs? Costuming is an important part of presentation, to be sure, but should not be a substitute for solid technique. You should be able to distinguish yourself from the crowd by virtue of your dancing and stage presence, not gimmicky or trendy costuming.
-- Today: computer / Mercury Retrograde hell. Finally got things sorted, but is was a very very frustrating day. Made some resin pendants with Japanese origami paper. Am going to play with labradorite tonight.
Now for dinner. And to kiss Olive for a minute, as she keeps trying to lick my nose to get my attention. Ohhhh, Daughterbean.
