OOC
Name: Chi
Contact: AIM: shoot the tongues
Age: 24 (March/16/1986)
Current characters: n/a

IC
Name: Nick
Fandom: Left 4 Dead 2
History link: The life of a drifter, that was Nick's life before the
apocalypse. You can't stay in one place too long when you're in his
line of work after all. He's a gambler and a con-man with a few
run-ins with the law and because of this, Nick has learned to rely on
himself and doesn't trust others very easily at all. He went down to
Savannah with the intention of conning some backwater hicks out of
their money, but found it overrun with an infection that turns people
into zombies. Fighting his way through the infected, he met up with
three other survivors on top of a burning hotel only to watch the last
evacuation helicopter leave without them and with no intention of
turning around and coming back.

Without any other choice but to find salvation elsewhere, Nick was in
a tough spot. He was stuck with three other people he didn't know if
he could trust. He wanted to leave and go it alone like always but
that wasn't possible with so many Infected on his ass. It was
difficult enough to take down a Tank with four people, he didn't want
to imagine taking it on alone. So with his choice pretty much made for
him, Nick ended up sticking around with the other three, slowly
learning to appreciate them.

They made their way to a mall but found it abandoned by anyone still
healthy. Luckily, there was a stock car on display there for a car
show and plenty of gas to fill her up. They decided to risk it and
drive to New Orleans. That was the original plan anyway. They hadn't
counted on getting stuck in a suburban town called Rayford with the
bridge up. Metting up with three other survivors, they managed to
follow an under the river tour to a generator and lower the bridge.
After that, they ran into miles of abandoned cars that they knew
they'd need to pass over and zombies that made it impossible to
maneuver a car through. That meant they'd have to leave their stock
car behind and go it on foot. They made it through the cars and a
motel and found their way to a carnival, Whispering Oaks. There had
been a band scheduled to play before everything was overrun and, after
spotting a helicopter, they decided to fight their way to the building
it was originally scheduled to take place in. They figured if they
started up the lights, the pyrotechnics, and the music, it would catch
the chopper's attention. It ended up working! They were rescued,
but...

Lady Luck just was not on their side at all. The pilot had been
infected somehow and without much of a choice again, Nick had to shoot
him and just let them crash. Fortunately, they all survived somehow,
but unfortunately, they had to make their way through a swamp. They
did locate a radio eventually and contacted a man named Virgil to come
and pick them up. Virgil had been helping save survivors by picking
them up in his fishing boat.

If Nick had learned one thing though, nothing is ever so easy. The
boat ran out of fuel so Virgil dropped them off in Mississippi to
collect more gas so they could finish their journey. There was a heavy
storm passing over though, so they had to deal with that and zombies.
They did manage to get the gas though and used a fast food sign to
signal Virgil back--since they'd forgotten to grab the flares when
they got off the boat.

After that, they were taken to New Orleans and dropped off so Virgil
could go back and help out any other remaining survivors. They just
had to make it through the city while being bombed and over a bridge
full of infected to catch the last chopper out and into the safety of
the military. At that point? That probably seemed like a walk in the
park.
Age: 35
Canon point: The Parish, right before they board the helicopter after
making it over the bridge.

Personality: Nick is an asshole, plain and simple. He’s a cynical
pessimist, sarcastic, and downright nasty when he wants to be. It
probably stems from his lifestyle, which isn’t all sunshine and roses.
He’s a con-man and gambler who drifts from city to city doing what he
does best, screwing people over. He’s learned it’s best to just rely
on yourself really and doesn’t trust or open up to others very easily.
Kind of hard to count people as your bestest friends when you’re used
to finding ways to screw them out of money after all.

He’s also no stranger to trouble going by some comments he’s made. For
instance, he’s not allowed to legally own a gun in the US meaning he’s
gotten into trouble with the law before, but who knows how many times.
He also knows how to get blood and brains out of a white suit, so it’s
very likely zombies weren’t the first things he’s ever shot. He never
really elaborates on it though, saying you don't want to know.

He’s a materialistic guy, too. Definitely used to having money to
spend on $3,000 suits whenever he wants. His biggest concern during
the zombie apocalypse seems to be that white suit getting totally
trashed and he’ll often bring it up. If a guy’s willing to spend that
much on a suit, it’s clear he wants to look good. You don’t want to
look like a bum when you’re rolling with his kind of crowd and getting
yourself into high-stakes poker games I guess.

And though he’s quick to dish it out, he isn’t apt to accept blame.
For instance, he’ll complain about friendly fire if it’s targeted at
him but if he’s the one doing it? He’ll often argue right back, “If
you’d looked out, you wouldn’t get hit!”

Another example of this would be during the Hard Rain campaign when
they realize they left the boat without their guns and flares to
signal it back and Ellis asks why Nick didn’t grab it when he was the
one in charge of the gun bag. “Me? Who died and made me gun monitor?”

As far as his relationships with others go, he enjoys teasing and not
always in a nice way. He’s not an overly patient guy when it comes to
faults in other people. For instance, his favorite thing to do is make
fun of Ellis, the youngest survivor. It ranges from making fun of his
Southern accent, to complaining about his extreme love of stock car
driver, Jimmy Gibbs Jr., to his enthusiasm and optimism. Something
about the kid just rubs him the wrong way and maybe he just finds it
amusing to see him getting hot under the collar at his comments.

Coach, on the other hand, is teased a little less. Mostly Nick just
likes making fun of his weight and the fact that he likes ‘old
people’s music’ like The Midnight Riders. He does show respect for the
man though (much more than Ellis) and will back off when he sees he’s
crossed a line.

The only one he’s consistently nice to seems to be Rochelle and that’s
probably to do with that ladies’ man side peeking out. Like I
mentioned earlier, he doesn’t scream at her as much as the others,
only when she shoots him by accident. He’s also a little bit
flirtatious with her (When he heals her, he’ll say things like, “Don’t
tell the others… I’m only doing this for you.” Or when he has to help
her up after being incapacitated will even say, “We… I need you a
little longer.”).

Despite it all though, he does show appreciation, even worry on
occasion for all of them. When Ellis apologizes for his plan to drive
a stock car all the way to New Orleans because there were too many
miles of abandoned cars and zombies to pass over, Nick actually says,
“Don’t sweat it, Ellis, at least you got us out of that mall.”

He’ll even tell Coach he’s a “Hell of a guy.” (when he dies, but
still). He’ll even share his first-aid kits and pills if the other
survivors need it instead of hording them back for his own use,
showing that he has a little bit of concern for his injured teammates.

Powers/Abilities: Nothing really, besides the ability to play cards
and a damn good aim with a gun. Oh, and a killer sense of fashion.
Just a normal guy, basically.
