<lj-embed id="19" />
And I'm tired of looking at ugly men. Every day. In the news. I'm going to find the pretty ones. The peaceful ones. The ones that make some sense and have a vocabulary beyond 80 words and no need to repeat and repeat and repeat.

I find it a worthy goal.

Hello everyone.:)

The TV Viewing...

Few questions for those of you following the same shows.

Sleepy Hollow - I feel like I missed a couple of crucial eps. The silly thrill of this season is missing from the first season and I'm never going to be a fan of 'after everything we've been through' repeated in about every ep - which will dampen any silly thrill. Repetition does not make things more intense, but it does create a certain amount of boredom. The season as a whole - did it appear as if they had one plan earlier in the season and then switched the tracks later on?

Musketeers - Has there been any character growth whatsoever after the 6th episode 'Through the Glass Darkly'? Descended into a whole new level of Harlequin Romance of The Worst Sort. Predictability and Obvious with a side of Rochefort twirling his mustache while emitting his evil laugh while all other parties remain oblivious to his over-the-top machinations but hey, the King and Queen of France will sit idly by while D’Artagnan and Constance have their reunion. And everyone smiles on. Awwwww. Does everyone need to be paired up in this show like a Nora Roberts novel? I'm discovering a whole new level of boredom and grr.

Agent Carter - besides the fact I do want to see this series, but have missed it entirely - will I be missing some nuances with Agents of Shield having not seen it?

Marvel's Agents of Shield - enjoying myself silly. Liked where this last ep went.

The Walking Dead - enjoying the thinky-who-are-these-people-becoming aspect of the show. Rick Grimes SHAVED! Hotness has returned! I'd forgotten, but ohmanohmanohman - when that beard started going off - swooooonn. Cheekbones! Okay, I can be done with that now, but whew. Thank you show. I loved this last ep. I've enjoyed the others, but loved this one. Carol hit new heights of awesome with her awkward with a big ol' whatever-that-is weapon and her happy homemaker routine in front of the camera. Glenn's knock down of ROTC. I've watched the ep twice. I'll watch it again. There was much that delighted. My question is - do you like Rick's declaration at the end there? Admittedly, it gave me the happy shivers.

Supernatural - quietly optimistic.

Arrow - Uhm... are they tipping over the fun comic book edge to the 'you had to go there' edge? Mostly enjoying though.

Elementary - have only watched a few eps this season and for whatever reason made me tense, anxious, I'm not even sure what it was so I haven't continued. Even if I want to. Which is about as weird as it ever gets for me watching TV, because TV. Not REAL. But there you go. Should I watch? It's all right to spoil me a little on this.

Madam Secretary - so far behind.

Justified - waiting until I can mainline it. Avoiding spoilers to the point of paranoia.

Lost Girl - not seen. Anyone know when the last season will be available on iTunes?

This looks like a lot of TV except for not watching half of it. And in spite of those listed, I'd love to see something new. Suggestions? I'm not interested in morally dubious characters right now. I'd like to see a character reminiscent of Lee Adama in Battlestar Galactica. Someone who manages to hold true to their ethics in spite of everything - which admittedly is something I never tire of.:)

Hope all is well with everyone! For those of you experiencing winter - may we all see spring super soon. Now would be good. I can work with now.:)

P.S.: I let the paid account at Live Journal go given I'm not around much. This is my first day back since and ads are cluttering the page. And so many icons - poof. It was a little more disheartening than expected. I need my pretty.:)

Musketeers?

So far this season, when we get to see the foursome, they're incompetent and not a foursome much at all. It's a toss up which of the two which makes me more nuts. Probably the incompetence since it's there to drive a weak story and only manages to make it weaker. All Treville gets to do is look pensive. Bad guy is just weirder than weird and not at all interesting. Miss Richelieu. His motivations were so much more interesting. Lady DeWinter - her story feels more like a 'how do we keep her in this' story. The one thing I absolutely adore is Constance now with the Queen.

I've only seen 3 eps this season and I've yelled, cringed and 'seriously?!' at each one.

Nix this neutered version of our foursome and get The Musketeers back.

ETA: Scratch the 'I will not go nuts over a TV show' New Year's resolution off....:)

Reminiscent of shiny new obsession of first season. And there be singing as an extra! Enjoyed it all to pieces. Actually this ep would've been an interesting way to end the series. BUT. It has made me curious how they will follow this one.).
SPN & Arrow

Caught up with SPN.

Cas and Hannah - longest road trip ever. Angel story. Still no appeal.

Crowley neutered and turned into an emo teenager longing for bestie Dean is about as ewww inducing as anything I've ever witnessed. The petulant king of hell killing killing anyone and everybody - no appeal.

However!

Sam and Dean immensely appealing. And hot. YummyYumYum.

I definitely appreciated that Dean wasn't awesomely adorable and charming as a demon. I found him pathetic in his directionless existence of bar hopping and equally interested in the twists of good/bad of his actions. Ultimately he wasn't a good guy. (Thank you.) How easy to boot any sort of conscience or concern aside and no regards to consequences when possessed by your own inner demon. Probably the most freedom Dean has ever experienced in his life.

Sam's desperation - with no freedom from his conscience, concern and regards for the consequences - did save Dean whether Dean wanted it or not is pretty much the what these guys are about. In this, I can see where it would be unfathomable for Sam to let Dean remain what Dean has fought to eradicate most of his life.

Oooo.... but the disconnect.

I'm no longer going to do weekly episode reactions. Decided that watching SPN in episode chunks is the way to go and getting kicked out of Sam and Dean's story isn't as frustrating. Because I want to see how this plays out.

Watched a CW tidbit - JP and JA were asked the question how they would like to see the Winchesters' story end and JP said that having the brothers die was the only possible ending in order for them to remain who they are - ohmygosh, yes. I can see it. And weirdly enough it adds an intensity to the viewing now that hasn't been there. It would be amazing and utterly fitting in my view of brothers' story.

I'm interested in Laurel's story. Finally. Beyond thrilled that Oliver will not be the one training her.

I'm interested in Thea's story. Finally.

This is the one aspect of Arrow that's been bleh for me. The 'oh woe is me' of these characters. It appears they have moved beyond that. Hope they have moved beyond that, since these two women could become something amazing.

More Diggle and Oliver! Have missed their interactions and to have Oliver playing more the support role in Diggle's situation - YES! . The action/advertury of Oliver, Diggle and Roy - I'll admit to a little stupid smile drooling. It was pretty and competent and of hotel furnishing re-purposing - yes, hit the back button for the entire scene. More than once.

Gimmee mooorrrre!

And some shirtless training.:)

Anyone watching Madame Secretary? I'm enjoying that series.

Happy Halloween!

Just want to get that out there. Early. Since - uhm... July since I posted. See. We're all Halloweenish now. And didn't that take some brain scrabbling time to remember how to change the layout.

Hello!

I feel like I'm bumbling right into the middle of a conversation of which I have no idea of the subject or what's been happening with everyone - but sincerely hope everyone is healthy and happy and life is going well.

But three shows that are making me very happy and that's not to say others aren't, but I'm caught up with these.

Nathan and Duke switched! They were each other switched and I loved it quite a lot and they were adorable and interesting and I'm not really going to go into the first episodes - a little bored, but Nathan and Duke switching - worth it all. I'm also pleased we didn't have to lose Mara to gain Audrey, and it has moved on.

Watched the two eps Monday night and holy moly - loved! Even if I wanted to throw up every few minutes, but the show pulled out those quiet big moments between the characters that make me all kinds of happy - Carol and Rick's being a huge one - 'the will you have us?' - that. Yes, this is why I watch this show because it certainly isn't because of Bob's leg served up at the barbeque.

And Carol was so cool! Right?! Competence and down and desperate and make it work efficiency. Since we had oodles of it from all the characters it was a glorious couple of hours. I especially appreciated that as appalling and horrifying as I found Terminus people's actions, to know the impetus behind those actions. And as much as I understand and can sympathize with these people given the cruelty visited upon them, I also think Rick's idea of 'they don't get to live' was on par with kill the rabid animal and stop this particular madness. Terminus didn't rise above cruelty or crazy, but embraced it in the ugliest way possible. Do I think the group should decide who should be allowed to live or die? Not necessarily, but Bob's leg is a snack now - while he watches *gags* and I'm back to 'yeah, Rick, go get 'em!'.

This is definitely one of those shows that to decide whether you agree or disagree with someone's actions should be put on hold until you see the consequences of those actions. And then get all twisted up.;)

Stephen Amell. He's too pretty to miss. That's all. And the current story line is interesting. Very. Might not always get the writers on how they write the female perspective, but I'll watch Oliver Queen. Could throw in a shirtless training scene soon....just a little one. Or more. I'd be okay with more.:)

There's some compelling viewing out there. Viewing time is a little short, but I'm planning a visit the couch weekend with popcorn and remote in hand once this wonderful fall weather moves into the nippier stuff.

Hope you all are having a fabulous fall! It's beautiful here. Best color in years.:)

Dealing with stress?

I have a possible cure.

You think not? Your issues are too big to be solved by pretty men escapism? I would not dismiss or presume to say otherwise - that this 45 minutes of swashbuckling will make it all go away. But. It does a fine job of setting them aside. And why? Because it's not a show doing anything remarkably different. One can get a fair idea where the plot is going. There might be a surprise or two, but they tend to be interesting ones and not ones that rip out the heart and stomp it into a messy pile goo. There is comfort in that.

If historical accuracy is your warm fuzzy pair of slippers? Ehhh... I wouldn't want anyone grinding teeth. If your history lessons are a muddled murky remembrance from high school and beautiful men with equally beautiful women (who are generally wiser than their male counterparts in spite of choices made) doing awesome and outrageously cool things makes you squeal - omg, grab my hand and I'll watch all 10 eps over again with you.

It can be silly. No denying it. It's an integral part of the show's charm. The Musketeers themselves are so endearing with their do anything to save each other that it hits every single happy making button I have. That they each have their unique kind of appeal is icing on the already fabulous cake.

Watching it makes me gleefully boo at the delicious villainy of the villains. Swoon at the heroics. Heart goes pitty-pat and aaawww at the group hugs. Yes, there be hugging.

This is the comfort food of shows. Heroes win and lose, but not devastatingly so to the point of no hope. It's contentment and pretty wrapped up in the cozy afghan on the couch.

In short - it's a lovely way to shut out whatever chaos is in your world.:)

This entry was originally posted at http://shallowz.dreamwidth.org/164833.html.
Wednesday is the Update Day

It's sort of turning out that way.

Still crossing fingers for Almost Human. I looked at the shows ratings compared to some of the others and I'm still not getting what Fox is about. But this is the network that canceled Firefly. I'll probably never get what Fox is about.:)

The Marvel Universe special deal was interesting. I'm certainly enjoying the movies - the new Captain America - so there. And Agents of Shield is growing on me.

Noooo! Hale! Kenzi! Bo! Wow. Intense. It's weird now to be caught up with the series. I have to wait for the next ep.

I'm only on episode 2 of the Musketeers but so far this is the kind of mindless, but not always mindless fun with guys who manage to get themselves into trouble and have to be saved by their friends - which is irresistible in and of itself. If they weren't all so interesting and pretty I'd probably would have to fight the urge to whack them across the head. But they are interesting and pretty and how can one not enjoy them determined to save each other? Constance is adorable, tough and smart - more so than her husband can ever hope to be. The villains are glorious in their villainy. I so want to get to episode 3, but that'll have to wait for the weekend.:)

Learning Abaddon's back story was like this unexpected bonus since it didn't even occur to me how she became Abaddon. Sam's conversation with the former nun - I just adored it. The ending where the brothers are on the same page - nice. Misha Collins' directorial debut - I have no quibbles. I liked that the brothers weren't together for this ep. Ending had a bit more punch that way.

Maggie and Glenn! Woot! Okay, harrigan - you'll be happy to know I sniffled during this reunion. I like watching the matter-of-fact committed relationship they share. It's intense without all the overt stuff that usually sends me to 'whatever' and can we get to the next scene please. I'm loving how the separate stories are starting to intertwine in subtle ways. And omg - there be smiling! How long has it been since we've really seen these people smile?

'Shoot sharp!' orders the super tough Swat guy. I have no idea why that struck the absurd funny bone - except it really was kind of absurd. Hee. Laurel - blackmail! You go girl! Finally. I was starting to wonder if all she could do was weep. Good to see otherwise. Awww... Roy broke up with Thea - who thinks her brother doesn't lie to her. Ouch. Felicity - she has the best name for Oliver's past girlfriends and who can remember all the secret identities. I enjoy myself silly with this show. For the story and the pretty. Oooo... next week.

Emma update - little darling has a tumor/mass/something by/on her throat. Needs her food watered down to make it easier to eat and she's more of the mind to sleep or cuddle. We're taking some steps holistically, but not going to pursue anything more invasive. It's not worth the trauma to her and it sends her backsliding so much that any potential gain would be lost. She is beyond cute right now with her expectations of major spoiling. All in all she's doing fairly well, but sending good healing vibes her way would be awesome.:)

Puppy sitting starting tomorrow. We had the boy last weekend until Monday. Coming back tomorrow. Means a lazy weekend. I can take it.:)

Have a great rest of the week everyone!

SPN & TWD

I flat out enjoyed this ep. I love the Men of Letters story line. That Crowley would do what he would do wasn't a surprise, but the why of it rather was. Keeping the blade is a good way to guarantee his continued existence. He's more interesting to me now as a junkie than he's been in awhile. Mostly, I enjoyed the brothers' conflict was put to the side and seeing them work together again. It was so much fun to kick back and enjoy.:)

I haven't read the comics, but Lizzie - you kind of got the idea she was going to go in the way of Mice and Men. A situation far more horrifying than the Walkers. I've been dreading it. Expecting it and yet, owowowow. However, the conversation between Carol and Tyreese - wow. Yeah, I know I'm full of eloquence this morning.:) It was gripping and so lovely in the seeming simplicity of Tyreese's forgiveness. What a gift. One that certainly kept Carol in the here and now. But as grim as the story was, I so appreciate these little bits of hope. When you see people rise above like Tyreese did and show the kind of humanity that elevates instead of knuckle-dragging-this-is-our-world-now kind of behavior. This half of the season is excelling at it.:)

Life - I'm done with business coaching! For now. I won't say forever since it's proven very valuable, but I love not having the 'homework'.:) However, I am off to shovel snow. I know it's March. There's going to be snow. But poo. Snow. I was so excited to see asphalt. You could see the potholes and avoid them. Seeing dirt? I celebrated.:D

In the Emma news - still concerned. We have a vet coming to our house Friday to check her out and make sure we're not missing anything. Emma is so snoggy. When she meows it sounds like she's underwater. Which is actually adorable, but not right. Eating well and all that and wants to snuggle. If we could get her over this, I think we have a good chance of getting her back to her spunky self.:)

Hope everyone is having a great week!

It's a heatwave!

Be still my heart. It's 48 degrees here. We won't talk about the water dripping inside - oh no. Or the pond forming in front of the garage door. Nope. It's warm. Like go-outside-long-sleeve-weather warm. Bliss.

Emma is better. Spent all day with her on my lap not moving so I wouldn't disturb her - oh come on, you people with animals, tell me you don't do the same thing. It's the unwritten rule. Anyway, we were mainlining Lost Girl, which is probably the most unabashed sexy show I've ever seen with a story that doesn't take itself too seriously.:) I can't even imagine what they've cut out on Syfy. Heh. I enjoy all the characters, however, Kenzi? She wins for utterly adorable. Think we're half way thru season 2.

Major Emma cuddles, laziness and a new show (for us). A very good weekend was had.

Still love what I am seeing on TWD. The actors manage to convey a lot with quiet.

Have at least Maggie and Glenn meet up soon. These two are breaking my heart a little. At the same time make me all sorts of happy with their mutual determination. I thought it would be Rick and Carl's reunion with Judith that would be top of my list, but I've gotta go with Maggie and Glenn right now. Loved how they ended on Glenn. The anticipation of the eventual reunions has grabbed me this second half of the season. Rick reuniting with Carl and Lori in season one is still one of my all time favorite TWD moments. How can these be any less intense?

Tonight we'll check out Believe.

Also, killabeez posted the correct line up of Almost Human. I'm passing it along. This is the list on how they should be watched. The numbers that follow are the mucked up order in which they were aired. Yeah. I don't get it either.

"Pilot" [1.01]
"You Are Here" [1.08]
"Arrhythmia" [1.06]
"Perception" [1.10]
"Skin" [1.02]
"Are You Receiving" [1.03]
"The Bends" [1.04]
"Blood Brothers" [1.05]
"Unbound" [1.09]
"Simon Says" [1.07]
"Disrupt" [1.11]
"Beholder" [1.12]
"Straw Man" [1.13]

Have a great week everyone!

SPN: 9.13

Sam and Dean in workout clothes! There might have been a heart palpitation or two. A drugged Dean is an adorable Dean and he can pull off a hair net. Yoga people - what in the world are you doing?! When Sam is doing downward dog you look at him!

Boys are beautiful. As a friend said to me - you don't watch SPN for the story anymore you watch it for the boys.

Aaaannnd - that's where I'm at. Because they dropped right into stereotypes in this ep, cheapened it and lost me from the get go. I want better. The basic story lacked any kind of depth or richness so the rest was lost. I thought the concept of what the monsters of the week were doing was an interesting one and poof. Went standard operating procedure.

I'm certainly not going to get into which brother is right or wrong because I think it's actually more than that. For whatever reason the writers aren't quite getting the nuances of what this current - *sigh* - conflict needs without making these guys (who we know can deliver an emotionally intense scene) the right words to elevate it beyond the make wrong. Or perhaps we need the make wrong for the end of the season, but I'm struggling with the 'it ain't ringing true'. Almost feels like JP and JA can't quite buy it either.

I appreciated that Sam said it. Plainly. They have kind of glossed over that particular issue or skirted around it, but quite honestly, I don't remember clearly since this conflict is starting to run together with the previous ones. Was Sam's revelation he wouldn't do the same for Dean suppose to be a big one? Didn't we cover that last season and went the easy route of making wrong there when it could've been far more interesting explored?

Writers - it's time to stop breaking these guys over and over. It's been done to death. Literally. It's self-indulgent. Dean has been damaged by an early age due to his mother's death and makes decisions accordingly. Can we not see him grow beyond that? Sam doesn't share the same outlook and will make different decisions. Move it along. They can break, hurt each other, which is all we've been seeing lately to get these majorly intense moments that aren't so majorly intense anymore because we've almost become numb to them. Of course, there's always the fan element of taking sides out there, but I'm not interested in taking sides - there isn't one to take. I just want to see something different. Please, please, please.

Why in the world would you send the fat-sucking parasite back down to Peru. Are you nuts?! I'll make up the spare bedroom.

This more than anything twanged me about the episode. I just didn't see these guys sending 'a monster' for someone else to deal with. Dean wanting to kill her didn't fit with what he's learned over the years so again this didn't ring true to me. The writers have sent him back a few years in the growth they have allowed him.

Obviously, I'm still invested enough in the show to give it this much thought and grumbling. But dang it, I'd really like to see JA and JP be given something else to sink their teeth into and end the run of this show (whenever that may be) on a great note and not the 'oh, they never really did resolve anything' kind of note. Writers - step it up.

SPN: 9.12

A knock down drag out fight.

Soon.

With mud.

Okay, the mud was added for visual enjoyment, but seriously - enough with the talking or broody silences. It's not getting you guys anywhere.

Honestly, their current conflict has a forced-we-must-have-angst feel about it. Not that it wouldn't be valid otherwise, but what was said didn't quite ring true, a little contradictory and that is where the forced part comes in for me. Or I could be losing patience with angst. That could play in my opinion quite a bit here.:)

Garth - adorably geeky in his honey bun marriage and I love his confession of how embarrassed he was at getting bit. What always makes me wince is how often the Winchesters - especially Dean - make this all about them. You ran out on us refrain or something of that sort that's been repeated. It's an aspect of the character that twigged me before and I'm no doubt hyper aware of it now. Perhaps it glares because in so many respect the Winchesters are the most unselfish characters around.

But Garth - I don't think he should have to answer to anyone and I felt for him that he felt he had to in the face of those accusations.

What I think is done well is how simple they've made it for us as viewers to take sides in their conflict. But is either brother right or wrong? And whether you're for Dean or for Sam, I don't think a person is right or wrong in their thinking either. There are valid arguments for each side. Probably the most interesting component for me.

What I'm crossing my fingers for is some growth away from the messy dependence on each other. Out of anything I hope for these characters - beyond a happy end or a survivable one - is to see these guys as Sam or Dean. Not Sam and Dean. Not that I haven't appreciated Sam and Dean, but by the 9th season, I'd love to see something different.

I would've been quite happy if they hadn't teamed up again, current working relationship limbo aside. Think it's too soon. Keep running into each other - now that holds a certain amount of appeal. However, there's next week's promo and if you seen it you'll understand the whiplash changing of the mind.:D

Still think a knock down drag out fight (in the mud) would benefit them. And us.:)

So if you want to make a person wait regarding the fate of a beloved show Syfy, renewing it for 26 eps is a lovely way to make up for it.:)

More troubles. Woot! (And I'd like to see the series end it's run more unmuddled than it is currently.:D)

Cheers to you Haven Cast!

In home happy news - wash machine is fixed. It's practically a heat wave at 5 degrees and I have seed catalogs to peruse. Not a bad way to start the day.:)

This entry was originally posted at http://shallowz.dreamwidth.org/162716.html.
I don't know what I am. I want to discuss this episode and I don't even know where to start.

I'm going to get the 'they're already back together next week?!' out of the way. I love these guys together, I really do. But. You knew there was a but - but in this case, I think distance was good/needed and it seems too soon for them to be working together next week. This is hardly a breaking point, however. I'm interested to see how they do the reunion.

Biggest surprise. I liked Castiel. I've never disliked him, just to be clear, but I don't enjoy insta healing and wave a magic wand and poof everything is dandy. However, in this case, healing Sam - YAY! Sam's been walking wounded enough. I like seeing him healthy.

This also needs to be acknowledged - the bone-melting hotness in the t-shirt, thank you very much.

I'm not sure what the writers are doing now, but apparently for me to get Castiel, Dean has to be out of the picture and then Castiel is a straightforward character I understand. His PB&J/people analogy - priceless. I think what I most appreciate about Castiel now is he's an angel who learned from his experience. Also, the way he could relate to Sam when Sam really needs someone to relate too. Dean can't fill that role at this time.

Dean and the Mark of Cain. Dean, would you read the dang warning label before you get into this stuff? We may have been spoon fed the parallels between the brothers, but it doesn't make it less interesting to me. I appreciated the SPN spin on the Cain and Abel story.

I also appreciate Dean's scruffy look and he really does have adorable bowed legs.

Right now, the thing I'm crossing my fingers for most is when Dean and Sam reunite, please no 'Dean is wearing the Mark of Cain' secret. Given how touchy secrets are right now that would seem a crazy way to go. But you never know. Next week.

There's more, but again, I'm not even sure where to go with it. I need to see where the show goes with it. Goes back to the waiting of last week. I'm not impatient with the pace or what's happening. Interested and thinky. I'm not articulate enough to write thinky thoughts down, but I'm certainly happy to have them. It's one of those things that becomes more defined for me in conversation.

Where are you all at with this ep? Besides the 'good heavens, these guys are beautiful' appreciation. :)
