I just became a subscriber because of your post on time series (of which I know very little). After subscribing, I started scrolling through your past posts - as any committed procrastinator does - and found this one. It's unclear to me why but I connected with it in a "sensory manner". Maybe it was because while I grew up in a snow-less city, I spent my college and grad school years in a snow-heavy locale. So when you described the excitement of the first snow, the cold outside, frozen shoe laces, and disappearing in a library, I felt all of that in my bones. The only detail I'd always pay attention to that was not on your note was the sound snow makes under one's shoes when one is walking and it is quiet out.

So I just wanted to thank you. Because four years after you wrote that I am far removed from my days in the snow, sitting at a desk with a Bloomberg terminal open on one monitor, a pointless half-done powerpoint presentation on another, endless headlines about Iran, and Hormuz, and oil, and a tyrannical to do list hanging over my head (I'm not suffering or in the depths of mental stress, I'm a pretty happy adult who just happens to be busy). But reading your note teleported me back to another time and I loved every single second of those 15 minutes I spent reading and re-reading (at least part of) your words. It was a super unexpected treat so thanks very much!

what an incredibly kind note. thank you. i was unsure of anyone who likes my science stuff would care to read my short stories, so this is a really appreciated comment :)

yeah i’m not so different from you here, although probably a few years older. i’m a happy adult too, but i do have a wistful feeling about my college years.

You're not the only multi-faceted nerd :) And being happy in the present yet wistful of one's past probably means one is incredibly lucky. May your luck continue! (And don't stop writing)

thank you so much for saying that. I spent like 8-10 hours on it!
