In Loving Memory of Penny
A donation drive to honor our beloved dog 🐾❤️
Yesterday, my mom and I had to say goodbye to our beloved dog, Penny. The pain from her loss is still raw and intense.
Even if you are a death worker, grief is grief is grief.
About Penny
On a hot August afternoon in 2023, Penny was rescued from a Walmart parking lot. Abused and used as a puppy mill, she jumped into the car of the first person who felt safe—my mom. My mom would prove to be Penny’s fiercest advocate, acting quickly to find us stable housing so that Penny could have a chance for a better life.
Because Penny was a pit bull mix, she faced a lot of judgment. Many assumed she would be aggressive or endanger people, which made it difficult for us at first to find stable housing. However, Penny was nothing but loving and gentle with everyone she met. Her favorite things were rolling around in the grass and cuddling for looongg naps. She was so vocal, and always begged for peanut butter toast by saying “mama.”

Donation Drive
In Penny’s honor, my family is hosting a donation drive for Stealing Hearts Rescue, a local non-profit here is Arizona that strives “to save the lives of many stronger breed dogs that are often overlooked and provide them with the opportunity to become loved and cherished companions.” Their mission aligns with the legacy that Penny leaves—to always keep our hearts open, especially to those who have been misjudged. The love that Penny shared with us was boundless. We ask that you join us in remembering this love by paying it forward to other dogs like her.
Here are some ways you can support Stealing Hearts Rescue, including giving directly to their organization.
If you do participate in this drive, please let me know, as it means a lot to us! You can tag me on Instagram with #pennyfromheaven, send me a DM, or comment on this post.
Thank you ❤️
