LJ Idol // Week 10 // Icarus
An Invitation to Freedom.
We sailed across the oceans, you and me.
I taught you to hang upside-down from the rigging.
We set foot in a thousand cities, sent mail, bought rice, went on our way.
We were free, you and me.
Some miles inland we hiked up the side of a waterfall.
We emerged from under the trees, beside the water, in the sun.
For just a few moments, we stopped.
Here was a place where the earth meets the sky.
This was our world;
We were free, you and me.
But far away, the world goes on.
It is the little things that change.
The twenty pound note; the cover of vogue;
The allotment where nothing will grow.
When we came home, nothing had changed.
Nothing was the same.
We were free, you and me.
