He left Kyoto as he entered it.

The young geisha looked on with the same shy coyness—an air of innocence that mingled ironically with the stance of a woman who was still a girl was obvious in her bearing. The day was much like the day he greeted her—damp and gray, the air heavy with water quickly shedding into rain. The train platform, as always, was packed with wet, short bodies dressed in dark suits, amidst which the gaudy blue yukata beneath his European clothes and unreasonable height stood like a Grecian statue in a field of stones. His head, heavy with wavy dark locks, clung onto his wet skin. The face—angular, fair, and guileless, stared straight ahead with no emotions visible.

The men of the youga; the prints made of foreigners, were the first, and only others, she had seen. That was nine years ago, upon her own arrival to this secluded town. The line of work she was put into made contact with the Westerners—the legendary demons of her childhood tales—inevitable. There were British and Americans as well, equally as vile in appearance: strange protruding noses, unusual hair, and odd clothing.

An oddity, another displeasing aspect of the Western cultural onslaught, but there were more important things in mind, uglier things she had to confront. The struggle against her own will to survive for a future that held no place for her.

For now, there might be. A war was brewing from the foreign land, now reaching her quaint village of Fushimi ku. Many geishas had already left, not north, but south towards Osaka. It wasn’t the fact that she didn’t know where to go, rather she did not know her purpose in doing so, just living, breathing, surviving—

As if hearing her distress, he turned. Olive green eyes stared back at her, badly concealed with feigned apathy. He wasn’t surprised to see her; of the whole city of thousands, he was the only one who knew where she was going, and was probably the only one who really cared. There were no more than five men between them, but they both stood, immobile and unspeaking.

He was going back to his homeland, he last told her on their last night together. It was a brief mention, a ghost of a statement that she could have just brushed off as him talking in his sleep. But no; the gentle touches and sweet whispers lured her into blissful ignorance, like a plump man getting drunk off of trading silk.

She wondered why he was going back to Europe, as some other foreigners still remain here. He must be going back to Greece to stay, judging by the valise in his hand, but to whom? The last time they spoke there was no mention—

As if it mattered now. They spoke of too much, and it was better—better that she will not know where to look for him, and that he will think her dead. If he thought of her at all.

She looked at him with remorseful silence. Kinship cannot exist between souls as naturally divided as theirs, despite whatever happened here in Kyoto. There was no magic in love, only weakness that faltered in the face of reality.

Her shoulders, though covered, shivered in the cold as raindrops slid down her cheeks like tears. The group of people surrounding them moved forward. His train had arrived, and she must go seek hers.

a/n:
Here's a little synopsis to clarify any unanswered questions:
This story is set during WWII, and during that time the geisha profession was starting to decline.
Honda Sakura, who had been brought up as a geisha since early childhood, suddenly found heself in facing an unknown future,
The title Kachou Fuugetsu is a Japanese proverb, which literally translates as flower, bird, wind, moon. It means, "Experience the beauties of nature, and in doing so learn about yourself."
In such a beautiful and secluded place like Kyoto, Sakura meets an unlikely man who will unintentionally chip away at her geisha mask.

Well, not exactly about Germany, but Prussia and Germany. October Twenty Fourth by lilien_passe. Hands down the most heartbreaking story I've read so far that made me cry a bucket of tears. TT-TT

France and Spain? Hmm... I guess. I mean, I've seen a few doujins about this pairing, but I haven't really thought of these two as a couple. Depends on how well written a France/Spain fic is to my POV. Oh!, but I do remember this one fancomic about France and Spain (they're suppose to have dinner together every Tuesday or something like that). That fancomic is the most sweetest France/Spain interaction I've ever seen, and it broaden my liking to these two.
