anime20in20 - Round 50 (hakuouki / utapri / hiiro no kakera/ brohers conflict / starry sky)

I've been making icons for mostly shounen series these days, so for anime20in20's last round before its hiatus, I've decided to make it all shoujo! :D Icons 01-05 are from Hakuouki, 06-10 are from Uta no Prince-sama, 11-15 are from Hiiro no Kakera, 16-20 are from Brothers Conflict, and 21-25 are from Starry Sky.

I was seriously worried if I'll be able to finish this set on time, so I was truly thankful for the extension. orz I'm surely going to miss the community... I hope it will only be a short hiatus... :)
I'll be adding notes later since it's already past 1AM here and I need to get up at 5. LOL XDD

icon tutorial #001

My sincere apologies for the super lateness of this, Lu. orz I've just realized that it has been more than a year since I said I'll post it immediately. ;____; I'm so very sorry. I'm also sorry for the utter noob-ness of this post. My first ever icon tutorial... if there's anything that's unclear, please tell me?

01. Started with this
image of Sumeragi Subaru; I removed the background and cropped it then placed it on the right corner of the icon. I adjusted the color and brightness using Levels, Color Balance and Brightness/Contrast. (Layer >> Adjustments >> Levels / Color Balance / Brightness/Contrast).

02. Under the layer of the image, I filled the background with c77d06. This will serve as the "base" of the background.

03. I then pasted this texture by bttrflykiss on top of the "base" background on Soft Light, Opacity 100%.

04. Next, I went back to the image. To get that blurred effect, I duplicated it and then smudged the corners of the top layer using the Smudge Tool. Once that was done, I erased some portion of the smudged image (focused on the corners). I then duplicated the original layer of the image (again) and placed it on top of the smudged one; set it on Soft Light, Opacity 11%.

05. I pasted another texture by bttrflykiss on top of everything and set it on Soft Light, Opacity 100%. After this, I smudged the left side a bit and erased some parts on Subaru's face.

06. Then, I duplicated the texture and set it to Screen. Subaru looked really bright and yellow, so I erased most of the middle part leaving only the top and the bottom-left side.

07. Next, I added this texture, also by bttrflykiss, on Multiply, Opacity 100%. Just like in the previous step, I erased the parts on Subaru, so that only the top and left side remained.

08. It looked rather dark, so I used this texture (by bttrflykiss again) on Soft Light, Opacity 100%. Of course, I erased the parts on Subaru's face.

09. I then pasted this texture by bttrflykiss, of course XDD;; and set it on Screen, Opacity 100%; erased the middle part leaving only the sides.

10. It became rather washed out, so I used this texture by dustymemories on Color Burn, Opacity 100%; smudged it a bit to smoothen out the grunge-y effect of the texture.

11. Next, I pasted this texture by sanctuarylight on Soft Light, Opacity 32%; erased some parts on the four corners.

12. Then, I used this texture (I'm not sure who made it, so if you know, please tell me, so I can give proper credit to the maker) to lighten the colors. It looked a bit washed out/distracting, so I ended up erasing some parts around Subaru.

13. Now for the text! I got the phrase "saw the sunset in the east" from the 7th opening song of Hitman REBORN! 'Funny Sunny Day' by SxOxU. I typed each word separately and rotated them.
For 'saw' (font face: Baskerville Old Face, font size: 14, height: 120%, color: fdfdfd); for 'the' (font face: Baskerville Old Face, font size: 12, height: 120%, color: fdfdfd); for 'sunset' (font face: Baskerville Old Face, font size: 14, height: 120%, color: c23402); for 'in' (font face: Baskerville Old Face, font size: 12, height: 120%, color: c23402); and for 'east' (font face: Baskerville Old Face, font size: 30, height: 120%, color: fdfdfd). Then, I duplicated 'east' and blur it (Filter >> Blur >> Motion Blur >> Angle: 25, Distance: 70 pixels).
It's up to you if you still want to erase some of the lines on the sides. :)

anime20in20 - Round 47 (Shin Kidou Senki Gundam Wing)

I was originally asking for an extension but a lot of things happened and I had to call in sick today... and thus I was able to finish my set for anime20in20's Round 47! YAY! \o/

For this round, I decided to go old school and chose Gundam Wing! :) This is one of those series that started it all for me. I remember racing home from school just in time to watch an episode in one of the local channels. It was also through this series that I learned of yaoi, shounen-ai and fanfiction (when an upperclassman in highschool asked me to read a fanfiction featuring the GWing boys ^^;;). And I just got to say that this fandom has a LOT of prolific fanfiction authors! *____*

I'm not really that satisfied with how some of these turned out but I'm happy I'm still on time... ^^;;

And I finally got the chance to make icons for Karneval! XDD I've read both good and not so good reviews about the anime but the art is just too pretty I had to watch it. LOL

This is reaaaalllly late... orz But between work and family issues, I'm just glad I was able to finish the set. Whew!

At first, I was pretty much excited when I chose Subaru for clamp_icontest's 20in20 challenge but while browsing for images on the internet, I realized that he only had a few for X/99 and most of them were with Seishirou. LOL Thus, most of the images I used in my icons were from Tokyo Babylon. ;;;

I decided to use adjectives denoting color to describe Subaru: white/blue represents his innocence and relatively peaceful life when he was still young; emerald for his eye color; pink signifies the Sakurazukamori in his life and how that person changed everything; red symbolizes the death of his twin sister Hokuto; and black/gray signifies his "corruption" and how he seems to view his life after Seishirou's death.
It was definitely a challenge to look for pictures for these, especially for PINK because I really wanted to use something with sakura petals. In the end, I didn't have a choice but to use a particular image of Subaru that I've used several times already. ^^;;;

*dies* I'm finally done with my set! \o/
I really thought I won't be able to finish it with all the calamities happening where I live... orz
But I'm truly glad I'm done with my set. :D My first ever for anime20in20!

I started watching Hiiro no Kakera out of curiousity and fell in love with its opening song. The heroine is rather whiny for me but the bishies in the show somehow made up for it (not to mention that the art in the game is really gorgeous!) ^^;;
As for the icons... I should practice more~~ XDD

I Can't - Inukai Shinji. When I was reading fan reviews about the game, there was a scenario about Shinji and Yuuichi giving O-chan a bath but the conversation heard by the heroine was rather green and full of inuendos. ^^;; And "I can't..." was included in said dialogue.

Keeping A Secret - Onizaki Takuma & Kasuga Tamaki. The text used in the icon is the title of a song by Queens of the Stone Age.

Pop Art - Kutani Ryou. This one's really tough! It still doesn't look like a pop art but I tried my best... XDD;;

I think my bias towards Yuuichi was rather obvious here but I just couldn't help it. He's too beautiful! Uwah... it sure felt like a while since I was able to make icons again!
I experimented a lot with textures, styles and whatnot (which made me realize that I don't have anything I could call as 'my style' ;;;).

First post for 2012 although I might be cheating (?) as these icons were made 3 months ago. I just was not able to post them due to my hectic work schedule. I fell in love with Shinkai Makoto's works after watching 5 Centimeters Per Second, so when I came across his photobook, I couldn't help but want to icon them. ;;; Didn't do much with these actually. I wanted to practice on cropping and adjusting colors, so that's all you'll see in this batch. I just hope I did the wonderful images justice. ;;;;

I know the text is pretty emo but I got it from the provided song in the comm and thought the image I recently got of Tobari (from the series Nabari no Ou) goes perfectly with it. It was also my first time trying this particular style, so I was quite proud with how it turned out.

I was really impressed by her Category icons I just had to use one of them! The characters are from Nekota Yonezou's Elektel Delusion, one of my favorite series from said mangaka. I really like the soft colors and use of textures in this icon. The expressions of the two characters matched the overall mood of the piece.

Ao no Exorcist is a bias of mine these days and my favorite character is one Okumura Yukio (such an adorable 'megane' XDD). I fell in love with this icon the moment I saw it that I had to replace one of the userpics I was using for this. As always, pamkips's composition is brilliant--the colors, textures, as well as the image and text placement were gorgeous.

I was very much into Hakuouki last year, so when I participated in tcg_exchange's Secret Santa event, I requested for either a Hijikata Toshirou or Okita Souji icon. I've been using this ever since. ^__^

I made this late last year when I was still addicted to Hakuouki and its gorgeous artwork. The text came from a TV series of the same title and while I haven't watched it before I made the icon, I thought of Okita Souji as the most 'human' in the Hakuouki game from how he showed his emotions (and occasionally played with them). Plus, he's one of my favorites, so making an icon of him is definitely a must. :D

Yaoi20in20 - Round 05

WAHHH... I made it!!!! I honestly didn't think I'd be able to finish my set in roughly three days. I was busy with job interviews these past few weeks and then got sick last weekend. I almost gave up but then I thought 'what the heck, if I make it, I make it; if don't, then...' orz

And since it's a general round this time, I had a blast choosing images from different series and mangakas. This set is a little different from my usual style as I've experimented a lot with textures and stuff. I'm not exactly satisfied with how some of them turned out but I just can't redo those anymore... my back and wrist are sooo killing me right now. ;~~; 'Nuff said.

Simple crop - Takaba Akihito from Ayano Yamane-sensei's Finder Series. Uhh, the image is just striking, so I decided to go with it instead.

Lovers - Klaus von Wolfstadt and Taki Reizen from Inariya Fusanosuke-sensei's Hyakujitsu no Bara. I am totally in love with this series I just had to make an icon for it. :)

Shapes - Asami Ryuichi from Ayano Yamane-sensei's Finder Series. Since I made one of Akihito, Asami-sama insists that we need to have one of him as well. XDD;;

Silhouette - Aoyagi Ritsuka from Loveless. I know this style is pretty old but I've always wanted to make an icon like this, so I did! ;;;

Yaoi20in20 - Works of Honami Yukine

I once mentioned to cool_spectrum that I would like to try my hand at 20in20 challenges. Ehe... figures that my first is from yaoi20in20 (hope it won't be my last). ^^;; But I was truly ecstatic when I saw the community; I just had to sign up without thinking. *grins

Here's my set for the round...

A note of warning: The icons in this set contain BL themes (two guys kissing), so if you're uncomfortable with that, please don't go under the cut.

I've always been in love with the soft lines and coloring of Honami Yukine-sensei's art. I just hope I did her works justice with these icons (especially after a long hiatus from anything graphics-related).

Notes:

Speech Bubble - Sou from Rin! I first thought of using a manga panel for this but I just couldn't get the right shade for it. Three icons and much experimenting after, I discovered Katsura and Sou's image in a cafe and decided to go with it instead.

Artbook Scan - from Toshishita no Kareshi, a novel illustrated by Honami Yukine. I don't know anything about it but I really liked the emotion in the image. I struggled with the typography in the icon and I think it shows. ;;;

Fangirl/boy - from the second volume of Kimi ni wa Katenai. This was another difficult one for me! XDD;; I must've experimented with 4 different pictures before I was finally satisfied with the icon.

Font: Champignon - from Tamayura, a BL game illustrated by Honami-sensei. I was really surprised when I found out about this game. Seeing the art just made me want to try playing it. LOL

Smile - Katsura from Rin! I used the same image for 'speech bubble'. I think Katsura's smile is perfect for the theme.

Close crop - Katsura from Rin! (again) I'm especially fond of this particular image for reasons unknown to me. I'm not sure if this is all right for the theme, so if it isn't, please do tell me and I'll change it.

Argument - another one from Tamayura, a BL game illustrated by Honami Yukine. The image was perfect for the theme but my cropping is just hideous. I really need to practice more on it. ;~~;

Two colors - Sou from Rin! (yet, again) Red and purple. Like 'close crop', I'm not sure if this fits for the theme, so if it isn't, please tell me and I'll edit it.

He - Torishima Morio from Kimi ni wa Katenai. This guy makes me want to have a big brother like him... I just hope I didn't make him too yellow. :P

Box - Kouichi from Rin! I think I'm pretty much biased towards this series as you can see from the icons I made but I absolutely must make an icon of this cool guy. I feel for him in the series. ;__;

I thoroughly enjoyed cropping the images for these. The design's pretty simple 'tho. ;;; (11-15: Toshishita no Kareshi, Rin!, Kiss Scandal, Uchi no miko ga iukoto ni wa, Tenohira no Seiza)

Artist's Choice
Uhh... I just made what I felt like making with the images. I hope they don't look that different from one another... I did use the same elements in making them. ;;; (16-20: Tenohira no Seiza, Kimi ni wa Katenai, Garasu no Hako, Desire, Rin!)

** 23 & 24 - made them in the past. I just thought it's better to put them here rather than in another post. ;;;

It sure has been a long time since I updated here. Work took over for a while and had become too overwhelming that it even affected my health. I'm really sorry for disappearing without any word or notice... orz But now that I'm looking for a new job, I may be able to find some free time to make icons. :D So before I update with a new batch, here are a few oldies from me... ^^;;

CLAMP Icon Challenge: Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles

This is a 30-icon challenge that ran at clamp_icontest in celebration of their 300th anniversary~~

It's actually my very first icon challenge, so I'm a bit nervous posting this batch. =___= I've been seeing a lot of lovely images from Tsubasa Chronicles everywhere, so even though I haven't started watching the series when I signed up for the challenge, I just had to choose it. I think it's pretty amusing that I finished both the series and this challenge on the same week. XDD;;

Site's still under construction but let's try posting some icons nao. I'm really new at html coding and stuff, so consider this a kind of test? ;;
