Ex-minister Adam Shareef’s wife, Zeenaz, appointed state minister

Zeenaz Adnan appointed state minister at Health Ministry.

Zeenaz Adnan, the wife of Adam Shareef Umar, who served as the current administration’s first Local Government Minister, has been appointed state minister at the Health Ministry.

Although the government had previously announced senior state appointments in a timely manner, Zeenaz’s appointment had not been made public.

Responding to Sun’s questions, Health Ministry’s spokesperson confirmed that Zeenaz was appointed a state minister at the Ministry on July 4th. According to the spokesperson, Zeenaz officially assumed her duties on July 7th, and is currently assigned to the department responsible for gender-related affairs.

Zeenaz is a seasoned professional with experience in the sector, having previously overseen the state-run children’s shelter, Kudakudhinge Hiyaa.

At the onset of the current administration, Zeenaz served as ruling People’s National Congress (PNC)’s secretary general. She was replaced following the conclusion of her term.

Subsequent reports suggested that Zeenaz had been appointed to a senior position at the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL). However, no official source confirmed this.

Adam Shareef resigned from his ministerial position during a cabinet reshuffle prompted by the government’s poor performance in April’s local council elections and referendum.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has since nominated Adam Shareef to serve as the Maldivian Ambassador to Qatar, with his appointment now submitted to Parliament for approval.
