I met Marlee Hart for the first time in August of 2006.
We were supposed to go see HP GoF in imax at Discover Place in Charlotte. Instead, we went to steak and shake and talked about Shoebox Project for two hours.

The last time I saw Marlee was just before Christmas. I spent three hours with her in the hospital, I brought her my Peter Pan stuffed doll that she had hugged when she was scared as she watched Supernatural with quidditchkiss and I years and years ago.

The last time I talked to Marlee was on twitter, when I asked her if she had him with her. She said no, but that her mother was bringing him to her. She at replied me a picture that her mother sent of Peter in the car with his seat belt on.

Marlee died yesterday.

Last night, in the midst of the superbowl, I wondered where she was. She loved the Patriots more than anything and her silence worried me. Of course, now, I know why.

She was the strongest person I knew, know. She beat and survived lymphoma at age 19 only to turn around and get sarcoma at 21. 24 is too young to die.

I love you Marlee. She always laughed because I had two tags for her. Fuck yes, I am using both of them now.

Writer's Block: School Ties

I have a BFA in Theatre Arts: Design and Production with a concentration in Scenic Painting. Aka, I went to school to learn how to paint sets for theatres.

And something that surprises even me: I am a professional Scenic Painter.

Even better, I am the head of my department at the state theatre of NC, the Scenic Charge. Last season I charged 17 shows in 10 months, this year it is going to be 18. There were times where I didn't have a day off for 28 days... I think that was the most I counted.

Anyways. Yes, I am in my field. I get to paint all day long, in comfy clothes. WHAT IS A NORMAL WORKING ENVIRONMENT.

Some day I want to write a fic about everything... that happens on a daily basis in a theatre. Theatre is a crazy place.

If you do, you should check out River Whyless. Their new album came out TODAY and you can listen to it streaming on bandcamp and/or download it by naming your own price.

They used to be called Do it to Julia and I love them they are a local band from Asheville, NC (near where I live) and their previous album, Archie Carroll, came out in 2008.

Like I said, folk/indie sound. With both a male and female voice. I have met them, talked with them and they are amazing people. The drummer and bassist came for a lighting call at my theatre! The girl, who also plays violin in the band, was so excited when I told her that my favorite song was Wine Line because she wrote it and she made me tell the lead guitarist that it was my favorite because apparently he thought no one liked it. She was so giddy! Anyways.

Enough gushing, please give them a listen ♥

(In case anyone cares: I named one of my fics after lyrics of theirs. 'The Sky is Falling on Me' is from their song titled Julia. Beautiful.)

So I just watched ALL OF IT and I have a few questions.

So the first episode we see small Addy and it is 1978 and the house is a mess and looks like no one has lived in it in ages and those twins are killed.

Then we find out that Addy obviously lived there with Constance and Tate in 1994.... So... I am confused about when they lived there and why they would move in there if Addy already knew that people died in there? Like, it really doesn't make any sense to me at all. And how Constance's husband and Moira were dressed when they got shot. That doesn't seem post 78' to me but idk.

Thoughts? Did I miss something?

And wtf how does Tate not know he is dead after he killed all those people in the house.... I just don't see that as making sense either. Basically, yeah. Confused.

OH! Also: Is Violet dead? Like, after her over dose because she hasn't left the house yet afterwards, really. She was stopped from leaving.... Thoughts?

I was sick last week, which was horrible considering it was the biggest build week for Peter Pan.

I am so over work right now.

Mayes and I took a walk around the theatre grounds because we just needed to talk. Things happened today and it is the same shit over and over again where designers think that being vague in the plans means that if the end result doesn't turn out how they wanted it means we, the carps and painter, have to do things over again. Well, if your plans were more specific then we wouldn't have to.

This afternoon, we refused to change something.

I refuse to paint more stone because on the groundplans and renderings there is no stone where James wants it to be. I have already repainted the interior walls for Doubt twice because the little fucker can't make up his mind. I am not painting him more fucking stone.

*calms down*

Is it december? I want my two months off.

Mayes told me that theatre used to make him happy, that he used to care and he no longer does. That sentence felt heavy in my heart until I realized that he was speaking the truth for me as well. I no longer care. He talked about how he never takes portfolio pictures anymore and I said I hadn't in ages either. I just don't care enough.

My artistic integrity is gone.

I don't even do paint samples anymore.

Why? Because I don't fucking care to. I mix color and go. I know how to do wood grain with my eyes closed. For the floor down town I did a FOUR LAYER wood grain and I made no sample. In college that would have been preposterous but now I give no fucks. I know what it will look like when I am done so who cares? same with concrete, same with the stone. I just paint it and am done.

It is wrong. So wrong.

But I really don't care enough to change it.

This afternoon I mixed colors for Peter Pan, my favorite story. I had no enjoyment out of it. I just mixed them and labeled them like it was a chore. My job has become a chore.

As someone who went to college for scenic painting, for getting into this field because it was something I loved... this realization hurts. I am in this line of work because I had the passion for it. If you work in theatre you should have passion because of how much time and engery it takes to do but here I am, my third year in the professional world... and I already don't care.

Why don't I care?

The one show that I have always wanted to paint is Peter Pan.

Why, you ask? Well, for those of you who don't know: Peter Pan is my favorite story ever. I collect Peter Pan books. I have a 1927 edition of JM Barrie's plays. I plan on naming my son (if I ever have one... I don't want children but that is besides the point) James Matthew (JM... nickname Jem. ANYWAYS)...

I have not, so far in my job, been able to paint Peter Pan.

this has suddenly changed.

Officially, as of this morning.... Disney has sent my theatre a script. What does this mean? Disney rewrote the musical. They wrote it for theatres who cannot make Peter fly.

My theatre will be the first.

I will be the first to paint this show. I WILL BE THE FIRST TO PAINT THIS SHOW.

Disney is apparently coming here to help. for fucks sake.

I should be happy, right? I should be ecstatic. Instead, I am having a panic attack. They added in this show last minute, on top of the others for the rest of the season. I am going to be a wreck. This show is going to be huge.

I want to curl up in a ball and scream with excitement all at once. MY LIFE.
