J.C. Ryle

J. C. Ryle (1816–1900) was an English evangelical Anglican bishop, pastor, and writer known for his clear, practical, and Christ-centered teaching. Educated at Eton and Oxford, he served as a parish minister for nearly forty years before becoming the first Bishop of Liverpool in 1880. Ryle was a strong defender of biblical truth, emphasizing holiness, conversion, and the authority of Scripture. His writings—such as Holiness and Expository Thoughts on the Gospels—remain widely read for their simplicity, depth, and pastoral warmth.
