Marching Forward
See what we're up to as we finish up production and began party planning.
Spring fever has reached Scribendi as we jump headfirst into finalizing the small details and production of our magazine.
Our Valentine’s Day bake sale and Blind Date with a Book went incredibly well, with excellent turnout in the Honors Forum. As always, our staff went all out in baking and creating goodie bags for our fellow students to treat themselves… or maybe a special someone.
If you missed out on this event, don’t worry! Our fundraising team will be hosting a Refresh with Scribendi Cafe in the Honors Forum on March 26th, from 9 am to 2 pm. Don’t miss out on the chance for unique dirty sodas and energy drinks. We’ll have a plethora of mix-ins for you to customize your own experience.
Over in our office, we’ve been copyediting our page proofs carefully. Of course, this means our page counts are solidified, which means… We have our definitive works included!
A huge thank you to everyone who submitted! It’s because of you that our work here at Scribendi is possible. We had many wonderful submissions, and it was hard to select only forty-one of those for publication. If you didn’t get in this year, please try again once our submissions open again in April.
We are looking forward to showing you all the awesome works included in this year’s edition at our release parties.
Speaking of publication, the day of our regional release looms closer and closer. The staff is busy preparing materials for our showcase and first reveal of the magazine. At the release, we will be having our amazing award winners read some of their works and talk about their process. We are honored to share this great experience with all of our supporters at the Western Honors Regional Council conference.
If you would like to join us at this event, the date to save is April 9th. The Scribendi Release Party will run from 5-6:30 pm at the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art. More information can be found on the University of Nevada, Las Vegas page for the conference.
We aren’t just releasing in Nevada, though! Our local release is the week after that, on April 18th, from 6-8 pm We’ll have speakers at this event too, which will spotlight our local submitters. This will also include an Alumni Mixer from 4-5:30 pm before the release party to celebrate Scribendi’s 40th Anniversary. There will be food provided and Scribendi merchandise for sale. All these events will be held at UNM’s Hodgin Hall.
Please come and celebrate this achievement with us!
Have you been reading our newsletter and thinking everything we do sounds fun and interesting? Good news! Scribendi is starting our new staff recruitment for next year’s edition. If you want to become a member of Scribendi staff, read up on all the requirements on our website and get ready to apply when applications open sometime in March or April!
If you have any questions, contact us at scribendi@unm.edu, or come see us in person at our Honors Preview Night table.
With all of our work ramping up, Team Scribendi is eternally grateful to our most wonderful editors for taking the brunt of the technical work. The enemy Adobe InDesign gave them a fight, but they prevailed through the night and delivered us the parent pages we needed. Thank you so much…
We can’t wait for you all to finally see our two semesters of hard work come together! Come see our staff and submitters at our releases!
Thanks for reading the March Scribendi Newsletter. Subscribe to receive new posts and keep up with Volume 40 of Scribendi.
