Last week the #metoo did its rounds all over the internet. Across social media platforms, the hashtag went viral where women across all age groups, played tell-tale.
Some of those stories were heart wrenching while some others were left with super short phrases.
Now, when I make my way to Gurgaon, I reflect upon how many of those #metoo shares are really helping.
Do the men who leer, lurk and lust; really care ? Does it matter that the hashtag unfortunately went viral ? Do they feel ashamed of being the perpetrators ? Or do they instead use this as a can of ideas for their future expeditions ?
Is it the simple lack of mental conditioning from a young age ? Or is it something more deep rooted such as the result of female infanticide which made the manly race a larger part of the population for rather long ?
A man once repeatedly elbowed my breasts in a super crowded bus, while pretending to retrieve coins from his shirt pocket. If I share this with a #metoo on my feed, will you men really feel the goosebumps I felt at the age of 13 or will you rather consider it a good idea and go forth on your next bus ride ?
Don’t know if a social media trend can revolutionise the way people think but we women, surely deserve the liberties that have been cunningly withdrawn.
