Wandering Thoughts

In times of information explosion, the sight of sitting by yourself and just ‘thinking’ feels like a distant dream. If you’re anything like me, you’ll suffer the double trouble of the craving to multi-task. My latest irritation is my own urge to browse apps while glued to Netflix. In the process, I miss out the crucial scenes sometimes!

So well, my advice to self (and to you, if you’re interested) is to steal a few moments in your own day and let your mind run helter-skelter. Sometimes the haphazard line of thought does us good – bringing up what we had long forgotten, surfacing faded memories, serving reminders on tasks long due and so on.

Some moments for you to catch up on your thoughts :

  • Stuck in traffic, waiting for the lights to change ? Don’t scroll unnecessarily on your phone. Give yourself some thinking time. Don’t get lost in thought if you’re behind the driving wheel ! 😉
  • At the salon for your regular haircut or necessary pedicure ? Don’t stay glued to your gadgets and devices. Spare the hairdresser the trouble of constricted movement around your headphones, and spare your brain the constant activity. Sit back and relax because some part of the salon ads is really true!
  • If you’re bereft of your usual company during meals, don’t cringe and sulk. Treat it as your me-time and cherish your meal all the same.
  • In the shower – you don’t necessarily have to run the day’s scheduler mentally through your mind at the time. Don’t be harsh on yourself,  ruining the peace of a hot water bath by reminding yourself of a nasty email.
  • Walks and errands – If you’re running errands or are in the habit of a regular walk by yourself, stop using the earphones to plug your ears. They sometimes plug the free way traffic in your brain as well. Let loose, and think wide.

When does your favourite thinking mode come around ?
