First off, PSA: claims are open for Multiverse, the space fandom crossover ficathon. This has always been one of my favorite ficathons to watch, but I have never participated because the list of eligible fandoms I was familiar with was too small (read: it was scary!). But, it is a much more low-stress set-up this year, with far more fandoms, and some of the prompts that have been submitted are just beyond awesome.

Secondly, [info]st_aurafina asked me if, given the choice to travel to various alternate histories, which of three men (1602 Daredevil, Captain William Laurence, and Merlin) I would cliff, shag or marry.

Cliff

I think the illustration above (by Anke Eissmann) demonstrates adequately why Laurence gets the cliff. 1) No one could ever compete with that soul bond. 2) It doesn't matter if you cliff him, because Temeraire will always be there to catch him. Of course, I had better be safely off to another timeline ASAP, because I'm pretty sure Temeraire's next order of business would be to destroy the person responsible for Laurence going over the cliff.

Shag

I briefly considered cliffing Matt, but that seems unnecessarily cruel, since he's already had a lady-friend shove him off a bridge. Also, he's sexy and funny, and there's no evidence that involvement with him is hazardous to his health in quite the way it is in main continuity, as [info]st_aurafina pointed out. He's definitely not the settling down type, though.

Marry

Merlin isn't really an ideal candidate for marriage, either, seeing as how he has the equivalent of a soul bond with Arthur, and nothing's really going to interfere with that. But he would definitely be the most fun and relaxing to be with of the three, which is really my primary consideration in a long-term relationship. He's protective and sweet to those he cares about and treats his mother well - I think it could work.

If you want to play, comment and I'll give you a set of three characters.
