Macro photography has been a passion of mine for a long time. I think I bought my first dedicated macro lens back in the 1990’s with the Nikon 105mm 2.8 AF lens on a film camera. Some of the images below were taken with that lens on film.
Macro photography itself is a little different than just “closeup photography” and deals with magnification levels such as how it represents life-size on the sensor, such as 1:2 would be half size, 1:1 would be life-sized, and 2:1 would be twice life-sized. Most would consider true macro to be around 1:1 magnification. To me it’s more about the end result. I like isolation of subjects and blurry backgrounds with bokeh and streaks of light. The magnification is less important. To see some blog posts on macro you can visit the macro tag here.
