Across eight sessions you will learn the fundamentals of designing with code, how design systems emerge from simple rules, and how digital tools are created.
You don’t need a coding background. Just curiosity!
You will use a practical approach in which AI serves as a programming assistant, helping you write, understand and refine code so you can focus on design decisions and exploration rather than technical hurdles.
Sessions focus on demonstrations and accessible examples, providing you with solid starting points to explore and expand.
Shortcut your process!
By the end of the masterclass, you will have a grounded conceptual understanding of system-based thinking, how typography can be controlled through rules, parameters and code, and how custom tools can support and accelerate your creative output.
Look behind the scenes!
The masterclass is taught by Marc Schütz, Creative Director of Schultzschultz, former professor and member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale.
Coding Basics
Understand code visually and work with syntax, variables, objects, randomness, input, libraries and template-based coding.System-based thinking
Translate visual intuition into digital systems, use code as a design method and think of toolmaking as a design strategy.AI assistant
Use AI to write, read and refine code to turn coding into a visual process.Digital Design Principles
Work with vector, pixels, grids and algorithmic structures to learn the foundations of generative design.Typography & Variable Systems
Control typographic form through variables and parameters to create dynamic text.Input & Output
Use devices, interfaces and sensors, and export your results across vector, pixel and film formats.Animation & Interaction
Build behaviour through controlled randomness, motion, rhythm and interactive elements within code-based design environments.Custom Tools
Turn small experiments into expandable tools through structure, parameters and best practices in clear, modular code.
