This is not the amount that was in my contract.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I went to my boss and gently let her know about the mistake.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Little did I know there was no mistake.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She showed me the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">other<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> side of the paycheck, with taxes, benefits, and withholdings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was Greek to me. I had <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">no<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> idea how the working world operated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When I look back at that memory, I cringe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And I honestly hope you cringe at your past self, too.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because if you\u2019re cringing by looking back, that means you\u2019ve grown a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">whole lot<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the intervening years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Just remember, some of your employees are new to the ECE field\u2014or are new to working in general, just like I was at 19.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You\u2019ve hired a teacher for whom you have high expectations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And they <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">want<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to meet those expectations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But before they can master classroom management and parent communication and curriculum planning\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They need to know the basics.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Where\u2019s the bathroom? How do they clock in?
