Introducing Schemata Lux
Visions of Future for Good
Everything we have made, we have imagined first.
One of the greatest capabilities that humankind has available is being able to conceptualize realities that we have not directly observed. We can conceive knowledge of what was and could be without direct experience. We can foresee disaster and dream of better days. We have an imagination.
Pair that with the ability to formulate concepts and experiences into symbols and metaphor to communicate to others and we find fiction.
We can see something as it is, as it was, and as it might be at the same time and share those visions. With these abilities we can shape reality and build the future, with these abilities change is possible.
The mission of Schemata Lux is to use creativity and art to cast a light upon the difficult issues that we are facing today with an attention for how these issues will shape our tomorrows
The narratives we tell ourselves and each other, the stories that we share, they seep into our subconscious, they weave themselves into the fabric of culture. Stories can shape the way we understand our past, perceive our present, and envision our futures.
The futures we practice are the ones that we will build.
We do this individually through everyday conversations and actions but also on a wide scale through social media, news, books, music, games, TV, and movies.
This shared experience of media is a powerful tool, a tool already in use. A tool that is as often used against us as it is used by or for us.
As individuals we need to take control and take action to guide the path of culture. Every human being is a creator by design, it's only when our spirit has been broken or we have been convinced otherwise that people lose the ability to consciously create. We each have different skills, talents, and personal perspectives, which means that we will all approach this mandate differently.
Through Schemata Lux I intend to promote a creative approach to envisioning futures where we seek solutions rather than endure situations.
We need more examples of resilience, persistence, and hope but within a realistic portrayal of the near future. There can never be enough people creating for a better future because there are already too many willing to devour the future for pleasure and profit today.
In this publication I will share prompts and my own writing along these lines but I am seeking to build a community of thinkers and creators to build a better future together.
If you have any ideas or stories let's discuss in the comments!
